1.1         This memo seeks to thank you for the impact you’ve had to my EDB career.

2.1         When I first joined PE, I barely knew what PE was, let alone how to build a lasers & optics industry. Your guidance has helped me transit from a naïve fresh graduate to someone who can contribute meaningfully to EDB.

3.1         Having confidence in me

Forcing me out of my comfort zone and making an effort not to micromanage, even when I was operating without a Head (figuratively and literally) has helped me develop professionally.

3.2         Invoking a sense of public responsibility

Your determination to transform the PE industry when others felt it would be easier to classify it as a sunset industry has helped invoke a sense of responsibility in me as a civil servant; to do what is right rather than take the easy way out and empathise with our KAKPs more.

Having worked with you over the past 1.5 years, I am inspired by your firm sense to do what’s right for the nation, and your ability and foresight to think beyond existing constraints and challenge the status quo. I also appreciate your efforts to push us to be as rigorous in our thinking as possible and ensure that our insights and conclusions are backed by solid data fundamentals. 

On a more personal note, thank you for empowering me and giving me exposure to various interesting and challenging workstreams, even those beyond the ambit of THE (such as being on the WEF Secretariat). These valuable experiences would definitely help me grow and develop into a more effective and competent officer.

I’m appreciative of your strong sense of duty in decision making, and am also very thankful that you constantly push the team to gather new perspectives and condense them into meaningful, actionable insights. Driving sectoral transformation or creating new growth pillars is no small feat, and you have been a wonderful leader and mentor in helping PE/THE push for these initiatives.

Thank you for the guidance that you had provided to THE over the years. You have always encouraged us to go beyond our comfort zone to challenge ourselves to dream big and to see through the plans that we have envisioned for the various sectors in Singapore. Your believe in us to create an impact in transforming the PE industry will remain a great inspiration and a boost in confidence for me.

 

Being under your mentorship has taught me the various angles we could analyse a problem as well as the various steps to develop a creative solution to the unconventional problems that we encounter. This has been invaluable in my personal growth as a junior officer here.
