Q1. Which of the Ten Ethical Computing Guidelines do you think students violate most often?

In my opinion, a guideline that is the most frequently violated by students relates to the stealing of other's information. There are numerous ways for students to get access to other people's work online, creating easy ways to cheat and manipulate work. As a result, students think they can just get away with not doing the work that is necessary for doing a class because they choose to steal someone else's answers or work.

Q2. Why do you think these violations occur?

I think that violations in connection to stealing of information happen because students do not want to put in the hard of of doing their homework to the best of their ability. If there is a temptation to steal or easily cheat on a paper, then students might succumb to the temptation of looking online for their answers. This will give them time to do other things that they find are more important.

Q3. What do you think could be done to reduce or eliminate such unethical behavior?

Making use of technology resources is a great way to keep students from handing in work that is stolen or copied. For example, google classroom can allow an educator to do a plagiarism check to ensure that no student has the same work, or that they did not copy it from the internet. This resource is very helpful because you can tell the students that any unethical behavior will be immediately noticed. This will push the students to complete their own work, which is the ultimate goal.
