Yesterday I went to SESC paulista in search of inspiration for my project. There I got to see the exhibition of Bill Viola, which focused on portraying the aspects of modern life with video making. What really got my attention there were the sounds; everything was quiet, the people there did not said a word, but everything else made sounds. There was the sound of water, slapping, walking, digging, etc.

That got me thinking if it was done on purpose, because on the first part of the museum where the "insert name of exibição aquo" were, all those sounds combined performed a sound, something like a melody; an extremely messy and noisy one, but it still had it's rhythm, which co-relates to all urban aspects Viola was going for.

There was another piece "Orquestra of Silence", 4 man doing nothing and moving extremely slowly, I found funny how the artist called an orquestra even though it didn't have any sound. What if the music they were playing was actually the background sound of the one observing? Maybe for the next project I could do a sound by not making one.

Another great piece was called "Reversed Birth", a man stood still dripping in some kind of black goo. The video then started going backwards, the black goo on the man was lift up and then transformed on blood, then it went to milk, water, and finally dust. The use of these liquids made it clear to me what was going on, I believe I would've understand even if I hadn't read the tittle. I loved the reversed sound that it made, just by going from something watery to dry, the sound was almost like having a bucket full of water and rice, then letting the water fall, and slowly the rice starts to hit the ground just as the water finishes. This could actually be an idea for the project, but I believe I have a better one.

Finally, after going trough the whole exhibition I went to the floor below, which I didn't even knew that was having an exhibition and found, what seemed to be a project, named "Empatias Mapeadas". Basically there was a large structure which you could sit and then, with a heart beat sensor, have your heart beat amplified sharing it with other people who were also with their finger on a sensor. Meanwhile, there was an audio playing on the back, whispering things that, apparently, would make your heart beat accelerate or slow down, it didn't seem to work for me though. But the idea was great, I liked it most because depending of how many people were and the age, every time the sound created was different. I am looking forward to create a bass-like instrument based of my own heart beat.

During the weekend, I did some research and manual work of the End of the world, something apart from the pannels, like a mini-how to deal with the diseas- guide. I couldn't do anything digitally beacuse I didn't have any instruments do use at home. Anyway, today wasn't a good day, I'm writing on pallet because I cannot seem to find Duilio, and I need to use a drawing table. Today I'm working digitally, and if everything goes according to plan, I can finish a drawing and a half on the pc today. But, that is not what happened. I spent the whole day worried about what I was going to do and scanning the drawings for the pc that I barely made time to actually draw. The worse was, I never actually found Duilio, and had to ask someone to lend me their drawing tablet. Everything went wrong. At that moment I knew that i wasn't going to be able to do anything digitally. So it was better just to focus on drawing by hand.

Today is day 8 of the game-making projected. I've been working since 10 am on the map to finish it up and on the clay figures and on the cards. Everything is a mess beacuse I can't seem to manage my time correclty. I alway dream waaay to big, and since I'm sturborn if I like an idea, I'll keep on it untill the very end. When I finished painting the map, I decided to let dry and get working on those clay figures. I think i should have done so many, and I strugled to create different forms for all the characters. I only managed to finish the clay figures after lunch. After that I went to the PC lab to finish the cards for my game and send them to copyset so I could return to Ebac and cut them in the shape I wanted.
Keep in mind that I still needed to paint the figures and make the cards and record the video and it was already 6pm; Thank goodnes ther were some really amazing friends who decided to help paint and cut and record, if it weren't for them I could've never finish this project, I really am grateful. Everything was a mess and I believe that If i had managed my time better, the outcome would look nicer. 11pm I arrived home and uploaded the video. But then I noticed I wrote the name of the game wrong. AAAAAAAA. :(

Arriving at school 9:30 I realized I forgot to bring my dice! And THE RULES!!! Lucklily, since I'm on group 2, I could print them again. still, I don't have my dice. So iguess I'll use an app of dice roller generator.
My critique went okay. I've dreamt too big and wasn't able to do a very good game, at leqst in my opinion. Also, the visual identities didn't match, and the board was confusing since it had too much information in it. This is a project which I will be doing again when the brief comes.
About portfolio; I really havent been working on my porrfolio since june 4th. I thought It was something so distant, but now is so close, so im unhappy about that, and I hope i can at least decide on 10 good pages before winter break.
The first step to improve my portfolio is actually working on it. Either by writing down my sfromger pieces or just experimenting in a A1 page.
By the start of winter break I need to have the sketches of them. And untill the second week of the break I should have at least 5.

Since is idenpendent studio day, I decided to keep working on my board. I'll confess that i'm having a hard time with it, it is big and my main concern is how am I going to do the circles on it? Should i do a stencil or something else? Will it looo good?
Anyway, I painted the grass areas yesterday, so today i'll be working on the player's territories. I want one of them to be really rocky and cold, the other to look like some sort of field seen from above, and the last one will be savanah-liked.
At least, this is what I expected to look like. But this is my plan for the day, right now I have a session with carlos.
During our talk, he gave me some tips to how to write on my padlet daily, since he knows i slack off a lot. He did said to me to consider making my reflection at the same time as Luciano, but i'll see about that. Anyway, he helped me do a short list of the days I missed and what I did on each respctively, so i could write them down on padlet easier. This was really of great help, since it made me see how my day went more easily.
Afterwards, I continued painting. The paiting process took almost the whole day, so everytime I felt tired of it, I did a clay figure. This process continued as night approcheaded and I had to deal with the circles of the board .
This was really making me anxious, since I was to afraid to do it by hand and mess up my project. Thankfully, Leopoldo was there and he gave me some tips on how to solve this problem, such as stencil in a harder plastic surface, serigraphy, etc. Since i'm stuborn, i wanted to continue on with stencil on paper. The first one went well. The second one was a dissaster, since the stencil went completly off and the lines didn't match. After that I decided to call it a day. I could fiz that tommorow

Well, the next project approaches and we went with Leopoldo to Garoa Hacker Club, a place where people gather to make codes and stuff like that. One of the important guys over there, Alexandre, gave us a talk, explaining about the club, programming, artists and showing his work; making art by coding for a year.
Basically he tells the program a bunch of rules and it performs it, generating beautiful patterns.
I was surprised at how good the visit was, I trully was expecting something worse, and I didn't thought that it would be so interesting to see how code can be used to make art!

Back at Ebac, Leopoldo talked with us for a bit about how to make games and how to use rules, restriction and chance. He then gave us an exercise; choose something random and then an element of chance. Mix them together and see what you can get.
This exercise was really helpful to get that creativity flowing trought our bodies. My first major idea was making some sort of performance in which one person is blindfolded, and the rest aren't. Then, someone from outside rolled the dice, and evrybody had to walk the exact number on the dice. Evryone that could see would have to say "meow" for each step. With this game, I wanted to record the foot prints of all the players.
But then another game hit me; a strategy game based off War and Fire Emblem, with some rpg classes and systems. And honestly, this one really got my attetion. I then decided it would br this one.

This was really helpful and a confidence booster for me.
Anyway, over Independt studio day, I decided to settle down the rules and make the skecthes of how I wanted my game to look like. I decided on doing something continent-based. As if Africa, Europe and Asia were fighting against each other. After deciding the objective of the game (reaching the center of the board) i continued to making rules and the pawns. And having my first ideas on how the gameplay was going to work and how to make it excting. It trully was a productive day

As a result, people found it hard to understand the pannels, and how exactly the world end. The only thing that made me happy was the fact that people told me that was a project full of potential. And If I worked properly and managed my time properlly, it could be a great and beautiful way to see the End of The World. Those comments really motivated me to do my best next time.
For the second part of class, I still felt really blue. Anyway, all the sketches are on my sketchbook
I also tried on experimenting witj acrylics, but i did not like the result, so i believe I will keep on using watercolors, since it's very delicate and talks a lot with my narrative.
My narrative is clear, as far as Im concerned, and Monique enjoyed the Idea. Afterwords, we had the Adobe Illustrator/Photoshop with Alex Afonso, he taught us the differences between both of them. Illustrator is better to use if you don't know yet the final size of the project, since it doesn't work on pixels, differently like photoshop. But, Illustrator is very stiff for the hand and not as flexible as photoshop. Either way, it did seem better for drawing purposes than photoshop for the variety of brushes included.
I wasn't sure if I should make the pannels digitally, since I don't have that much knowledge about it.

Today was a nice day to reflect upon what will I re do and why. After writing them down, I could see clearly which projects were fragile and I could do better. Two of them I thought were incomplete (zine and believing is seeing) and the other one was a train wreck (rules, restrictions, and chance) since it was far too complicated. So I looked over my initial notes for that project, to see some other ideas. I liked the card game idea very much. Maybe doing a super-trunfo or a deck of poker with teachers and staff. Thinking of serigraphy and which would be easier, I choose the second one.
In the Afternoon we had a talk with bea about SCAMPER and an induction of safety mesuares with Marcelo. The scamper techinique didn't really help me, mostly beacuse I was already focused on what I wanted to do, and after my talk with Leopoldo in the tutorial, I'm trying my best to reduce my idea generation do I won't be overwhelmed with thoughts

Over this week, I have worked once more on our last project Rules, Restrictions and Chance. I selected this one beacuse I wanted to do something more simple and more design-oriented, instead of a complicated game that took way too much time than I had imagined. I made a time-table for this week, since I wanted to make a card game (like poker) using only staff and teachers of ebac by fotolito, it wasn`t suposse to be that hard.
Monday I stayed designing what the cards would look like. how would I approach the problem and how to solve it. Tuesday I decided to take pictures of everyone who was going to be on the cards and start treating the images for fotolito purposes. Wendsday I finish treating them and started working over the cards design it self so I could send them to Union, so i could finally have the fotolito. I started getting tired over the afternoon, so I decided to leave finishing the piece for Thursday. But unfortunelly, on Thursday I got extreamelly sick and wasn`t able to do anything, which made the processo of making it in fotolito impossible, since they need a whole day to have the board done.
As we can see, I really wanted to use fotolito, since it would be the easiest way of making 54 cards. To achieve that, over this week I have used Photography, Photoshop and Illustrator to help me. But since I got sick yesterday, I could not finish the cards design, therefore I don`t have the acetato with the design with me today. I admit that I didn`t do almost any research for this week, mosly beacuse I do believe I was sure of what I wanted to do, so I only looke for some references for the card design.
My goal was to have a playable card game ready for friday and experiment more with other medias. I believe I was able tocomplete half of what I wanted to. I worked with photogaphy, learned some tricks on photoshop and started understading better how to use illustrator.
Comparing my last project to this one, I believe is a lot more simple, and now I felt less pressure for finishing it, since I have the vacations for that. Overall, The project has improved in a way that, if I had the finish piece with me, it would show my artistic skills better.

Today I overslept, so unnfortunelly I wasn't able to come to the Souvenir critique, which made me quite bothered, since I actually liked my idea, even though it was a last-minute one, i'm pretty sure that if I had not slept so much, i could have improved it even more
On the second part of the day, michael explained some remaining information about the portfolio due date. I confess I'm extremeally stressed, since i don't know if my work will ever be good enough, and since the lasts projects of part 2 weren't my best. I am also scared that my assetment will go bad, that i get referral, and am not up to the task.
The time we had today to organize the phisical and online portfolio really helped me calma down. I decided to start an online portfolio using wix, since my friends reccomended, and although i'm having some difficulty, i will start adding content over the weekend. An hour later, i went to the studio room to re-organize my outcomes and put them in order, so it would be easier for me to see what I should and should not put in my portfolio. I do believe the projects of part 1 era my strongest, probably beacuse on part 2 I had some familly issues that interfered with my state of mind. Therefore, part 1 is my main focus.
I wrote down and planned a few pages. I need to re-take some pictures and make high quality prints for my portfolio. If i'm lucky, i can do all that over the week.

Ebac has returned from the winter break, and a new project with it. This one is called surrounding narratives, the main goal in this one is to have a building, or a place, as a protagonist. We had a meeting with Marcia Simbalista, she showed us about her work, how shd made it all about the horizontal line. One things that really touch me and made me think is how our subcouncious always inserts itself in our art. I will try to use that next time, or at least pay more attention.

On the afternoon, we made some observation drawings to get inspired. I used "ato de carvalho" and the way i made the drawing was almost as of they were being melted, or washed away. It gave it a certain melacholny feel. And i really enjoyed this creepy-new found atmosphere.

Anyway, afterwards i decided to do a photocopy of the drawings I did last friday and the ones from today, so i could mess around them and cut and make collages. In the end, i created very interesting compossitions, since they werent much alike; the ones from friday were much more dramatic than from today that were really simple and clean.
After lunch I started working with my partner to see the compostion of tomorrow's poster, we couldn't finish beacuse she was having a fee issues with the scanner.
I must confess, today didn't help me at all with the real project, i have no idea of what we're doing and why we're doing.

Today I finally was able to take the pictures the were missing for my portfolio. The morning part was all about that, soon after michael explained to us about the scheduele for part2/3, it actually scared me a bit beacuse for me it always seems like there is too little time. Anyway, once i booked my camera with duilio I took pictures of my moveable type on Ebac's garden. This was Leopoldo's idea, since my moveable type is made out of wood, it looked very nice and natural on the outside. I took a lot of pictures, various angles and many details. Once finished, i went to the fourth floor to get my graphic Score from sound and vision. This was extremeally chalenging, once my graphic score had 25,5 meters. Anyway, i took some pictures of the most interessting part up close and afterwards, with the help with my friends, i tried going to the rooftop to take a picture of the full graphic score on the third floor ( from the balcony).
But that is when the disaster happened. There was too much wind, and while my friends were trying their best to make the paper to stay down, the wind suddently became more and more violent, until it eventually ripped a part of the graphic design and flew away. This was an extremeally unfortuned event, but I was able to take some good pictures before it all happened.
Overall, the use of photography for recording the project was a great idea, since the photos were great.
During the rest of the morning I started treating the pictures and choosing the ones i was going to use.

In the afternoon, I used photoshop to see the best way to arrange these pages, and transform them into jpg. It was a rather simple task, and made me relief to finish it quickly.
I even had time to think about this week's project, and feel that i am finally heading to a direction with collage, my main idea was to create a scenery out of collage geometric shapes, with overlaying and drawing, beacuse i found the composition interesting.

AM:
I focused myself on creating a narrative which could be transfered onto the windows of the Pequeno Cidadão place. I want to use birds, since they are a symbol of freedom, and most kids, although they really appreciate being there, they dont wish to be, and rather be with their parents or adoptive family. Anyway, I failed on thinking on a narrative even with Ana's help, who influenced me most to do the stained glass idea over the wall painting. I went down to the pc lab to do some research about color psycology, some artists and narratives via animation.
My research over color psychology went very well, and I learned how and why colors influence our emotion, and witch color to use depending on the subject. I went very quickly trought the artists: Lúcia Koch and Henri Matisse, I choose two difefrent works from them and wrote how could I use it. Finally, i spent the rest of the morning watching animations to see if It could light an ideia, all in vain tho.

Pm:
After lunch, I focused on creating birds and searching for a narrative. I doodled a lot and had a few ideas. But, when I talked to Ana again, she told me to not focus on a story, and rather a sequence. It did gave me a idea of using the birds and going from a single one, to a flock that will fly away. But, there wasn't much time to keep working on the idea today.

Today me and Maria Clara spent the day planing how we would approach the fact that now we have 9 windows instead of 6. At first we were planning on creating one single continous narrative, but we also though the children wouldn't pay much attetion to it and ignore it. So, we decided on making 3 distinctive narratives about things we believe the children there want to believe and can asdociate with. Each floor will have their own story, we are using birds as characters, since they are a symbol of freedom, ehich bring us to our first story; birds flying in a flock towards the sun, that would be the freedom. Then, we have another story about belonging, a few birds sitting on a tree then getting branches to create their own nest. Finally, we have a story of the noah's arc. A whire dove is sent out from the arc and comes back with a plant, which symbolizes hope.
After planning that, we started sketching how it would look like.

PM:

My primary research had helped me on deciding what to do and how to do it. Vut, my secondary research hasnt been going so well, i mean, we did finish the maquete, but we havent seen the vinil, the material we will use for the windows in real life, only heard about it. I pretend to go buy it wendsday. In this last few days it is important to go first with what I have more trouble with: digital design. So I will need to get a hang of illustrator and Photoshop to help my partner as much as possible. The real problem for me is illustrator, i think is very difficult to manage it, but it's okay, we only need to do one pannel out of 9 in real life scale, and by vetorizing is the easiest way.
Now, i believe our design will improve the children's enviroment by giving them fun while walking down and up the stairs, as much as entertainment in form of a narrative and visual pleasure with bright colours and pretty stained like glass. The kids are always so focused on what they need to do, giving them a break and sense of peace and hope while going to some place to another seems like a good idea

I just finished all the designs fpr the stained glass, now I need maria clara to colour them. While she does that i will refine our maquete and start working on the A3 pannels for introduction. I will be spending the rest of the day at ebac working on this project, and I hope and pray that by tomorrow everything that i will need to do is print the things we need.
The only adjustment we had to make in our action plan was the day we were going to print everything. So tomorrow, i will have the whole morning part only for printing, so nothing goes wrong and i can make some adjustments for my assestment.
At this stage, i need to make sure everything is perfect for tomorrow to print, that way i dont have to stress out over last minute stuff.
Troughout this project, i've come to realize that i am much more productive when wotking with someone else. I believe that this happens beacuse i panic last often and doubt myself less also. When i face a problem, instead of being frozen with fear i can simply ask for the help of my partner, which really calms me down. Maria Clara's method of working is not as different as mine, but one thing that I noticed is that she likes to work over the project even in her free time, probably beacuse she finds it fun and has the software to do it, unlike me, who does not have anything to work with at home.
