(10 points): I found this article interesting, because air pollution leads to the deaths of more children yearly than malaria and HIV/AIDS combined.

Why is this information important to society? (10 points): This information is important to society, because it is making people aware of the severity of air pollution. What HCW’s are involved, or impacted by this this information? (10 points): Many HCW'S are involved/ impacted by this, because the pollutants can cause harm to children's developing lungs and can actually cross the blood-brain barrier and permanently damage their developing brains. Some of these HCW'S include primary care providers, nurses, and respiratory therapists. Summary of article (DO NOT PLAGERIZE) (50 points): According to UNICEF, air pollution has become a major problem regarding the health of children. Nearly 600,000 children under the age of five, including the unborn, die yearly from diseases cause by air pollution. These pollutants are especially harmful to children and unborn children, because they are still developing. Studies show that exposure to high levels of pollution results in a greater risk of fetal loss, premature births and lower birthrates.
UNICEF is working on reducing the amount of air pollution around the world to potentially save the lives of many children. They ask that people take four steps to help lower these rates. the first step is to reduce fossil fuel combustion and invest in energy efficiency. The next step is to increase children's access to health care, including more immunization programs and information programs about pneumonia, a leading killer of children under the age of 5. The third step is to minimize children's exposure to air pollution by keeping schools away from factories. The final step that the UNICEF suggests is to improve air pollution monitoring. Though it is impossible to completely eliminate air pollution, there are simple ways to help minimize it, and improve the health of youngsters all over the world. 10 points – Instructor discretion (organization, relevance) 10 points - Commenting on peers article Instructor Comments
Very proud of your -Keep up the good work !!

Instructor Comments: Wonderful article with great writing skills!!

Proud of You !!!

Summary Of Article: This article discusses new death rate estimates, how the study is done, the findings of the study, and the future directions of sickle cell patients death rate. The article states that researchers have found higher death rates of people with sickle cell disease than ever before. The article says that the National Institutes of Health and Centers for Disease Control and Prevention funded the RuSH project, which is a population-based monitoring study that collects data on people with sickle cell in the states of California and Georgia from 2004-2008. By collecting this data and using multiple diverse sources of data helped the researchers gather information about those in previous researches who may not have been included. By being able to have access to the data of those who were possibly not included before helped researchers find out that the average age of death of a sickle cell patient is about 43 in females and 41 for males. This finding also showed that out of 12,143 615 people with sickle cell who live in California and Georgia, nearly half did not have the sickle cell disease listed as a cause of death on their death certificate. Furthermore, it not only gave a more accurate picture of age at death among people with sickle cell but also gave research using multiple sources of data from additional states, spanning additional years, is necessary in order to better understand how and when people with sickle cell die.
Instructor Notes: I read your article twice and was still a little confused about the correlation of Sickle cell disease and the african american populations in georgia and california and the death certificates. Second, are you stating that the cause of death documented on pt's death certificates was sickle cell disease and these pt's did not have the disease??
