Ratliff then goes on to quote a man by the name of Edgard Varese (with an accent above the first e) while also saying that a rhythm in a song shouldn't traditionally be measured, or else it will be underestimated.

I really wish that Ratliff chose better "titles" for his chapters, because the only linking that I see in this chapter is the linking of how people perceive rhythm.
it honestly would have been better to just call the chapter "Rhythm (2)". repetition isn't bad, and gives critics more to write about, which is good.
Now that that opinion is vomited on here, I agree with his words and think that people should be more open with more "rhythmically challenged" works
