In Asia, this is most likely due to the high population density of countries such as India and China. Due to their high density, many cultural dialects and languages are formed and as a result of English becoming a rising lingua franca, these cultural languages are lost; for reasons such as: Cultural Imperialism, Linguistic Imperalism, and Globalisation. In Oceania, countries such as Tuvalu and Palau have low GDP's and people often learn English in order to internationally trade and raise their economic power.

Phillipson believes that English does not need to be taught as it 'Marginalises the opportunities for widespread multilingual education.' He believes the necessity for learning English is a myth imposed by their colonial history.

The article also refers to how the teaching of English 'enables individuals and economies to develop and compete globally.'
