Step 2 Situation 1: Vocabulary Acquisition Scenario: Students need to learn new vocabulary related to food and beverages. Task: Create a learning objective and outcome for a lesson focused on vocabulary acquisition. Objective: The main objective is for students to develop vocabulary and communicative and expressive skills about food and drink. Activities: 1. Present 15 foods and fruits in images in which students can observe them, and with this create 5 sentences with the observed images. 2. Organize groups and base them on food and drink preferences and with this create a conversation in pairs sharing their favorite fruit. 3. Create idiomatic expressions in which the food and drinks are identified. Example: I like “coffee with milk”, I prefer “hamburger” to “pizza”, the more expressions in which the vocabulary of food and drinks can be identified. Achievement-outcome indicators: -Students will identify a large percentage of the key words which they will write and pronounce correctly. -Students will correctly and actively use the vocabulary learned through the conversations and idiomatic sentences that were carried out in the activities. -Through individual research, students will investigate different types of food and drinks from different cultures or countries, in order to reinforce more contexts and vocabulary. Assessment: 6 Additional assessments will be carried out through the activity and reinforcements learned to help identify what has been learned. Oral assessments -Debates on topics related to food and drinks from different cultures. -Simulated conversations or conversations used in a restaurant to order food. Written assessments -Dictations of food and drinks in Spanish and written and composed in English. -Descriptions of the ingredients of your favorite food. At the end oral and written exam to assess your vocabulary and writing skills. Resources Online video games Worksheets with exercises Situation 2: Grammar Practice Scenario: Students are practicing the past simple tense to talk about past events. Task: Create a learning objective and outcome for a lesson focused on grammar practice. Objective: The main objective is for students to use the simple past tense correctly, to describe contexts and events that have already happened, in a clear and coherent way. Activities: -Conduct an activity with various types of past tense verbs which students can identify and analyze how they are used when talking about past events using guides and videos. -Students will write about an important event that has happened in their life using the different negative and affirmative forms. 7 -Make simple and compound sentences using the past tense to describe scenes from a previously watched movie. Achievement-outcome indicators: -Students will be able to correctly use the verbs in the simple past tense in an affirmative and negative way. -They will be able to participate in conversations about past events, using the simple past tense assertively. -Students will be able to identify what the 2nd grammatical tense is and how it should be used in conversations or sentences. Assessment: -Exercises to complete sentences with the simple past tense -Oral exam, in which a sentence is presented in the present and must be converted into an action with the simple past. -Conduct a final evaluation where the simple past tense is evaluated and how it is applied in a fluid conversation. Resources: Audiovisual material of conversations of people speaking in the simple past tense Activity guides Games and activities Situation 3: Speaking Skills Scenario: Students will participate in a role-play activity to practice ordering food in a restaurant. Task: Create a learning objective and outcome for a lesson focused on improving speaking skills 8 Objective: The objective is for students to promote their expression and linguistic structure in order to demonstrate their communicative skills in their everyday context, such as ordering food in a restaurant or any other type of request. Activities: Vocabulary activities -Students will make cards with common expressions for ordering food, for example “can I have” “what´s the special of the day” -Students will work in pairs to form the waiter and the customer, and in this way practice the conversation using the cards they made as help. Listening activities -A video of conversations in a restaurant will be watched, thus identifying key words and expressions that are usually used in the dialogue. Achievement-outcome indicators: Students will be able to communicate effectively, have relevant vocabulary and pronunciation, as well as understand questions and respond to requests. They will demonstrate understanding of the waiter's or customer's response in order to have an appropriate response. They will carry with them a series of phrases and expressions usually used to ask for something and demonstrate their ability. Assessment: Oral evaluation -Students will imagine that they have the phone in hand and will order a dish of their choice. -They will present a menu with various dishes available, pretending to be waiters. Practical evaluation 9 -A simulation will be carried out among the entire class to manage a restaurant, and the attention provided, the execution of the dishes, as well as their pronunciation and expression will be evaluated. -Students will have to execute a menu with various dishes, whether they are starters, main courses and desserts, in order to provide a variety of dishes to offer.
