I first read this at age 3.
No protagonist.
Seuss describes the fish he sees as he goes along.
One Fish is a thesis regarding the differences of people in society.
"Some are mad. Some are glad. Some are very, very bad."
This is the first book I remember reading.

I first read this at 4.
Max is sent to his room and imagines a world in which he travels to where the wild things are.
Where the Wild Things Are is book which encourages children to be creative and self reliant.
“There should be a place where only the things you want to happen, happen”
This is the first book I remember my parents reading to me.

I was 7 when I first read it.
The protagonist is Calvin. Calvin and his stuffed tiger, Hobbes, go through many different adventures together.
It's a Magical World is a hopeful collection of stories regarding Calvin and his best friend. It is cynical and hopeful, yet funny.
"It's a magical world Hobbes ol' buddy."

The protagonist is the old man. The old man struggles to catch his greatest catch.
The Old Man and the Sea is a novella which is a perfect example of man vs. nature.
