In my opinion the Mockingbird symbolizes hope, in ATD I feel like basketball also symbolizes hope. The point is that in both stories there is something whether it is a sport or animal they both have hope in them. In the excerpt from How to Kill a Mockingbird it said " ‘Your father’s right,’ she said. ‘Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.’ " and in ATD Mr. P tells Jr that he needs to leave the rez so that his hope won't die and he'll end up like everyone on the rez.

The symbol of ATD and TKMB is happiness because in TKMB their happiness is that the bird makes them music to enjoy " ‘Your father’s right,’ she said. ‘Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy." and in ATD their happiness is that Junior is strong enough to go to Reardan and days later he happy he dates Penelope and he made new friends and also made the basketball team. " Penelope and I were so happy to be alive and so happy to be alive TOGETHER" and also " I ended up on the varsity . As a freshman."

She was the greatest thing on the rez for Jr., she was kind to everyone and when she died because of the drunk and her last wish was to forgive the man. And the Mockingbird is really kind by singing songs to everyone and not causing any trouble to anyone.

a symbol that relates to both ATD and the mockingbird is a symbol of hope. "Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy", they only do good things.
The symbol of TKMB and ATD is hope. Miss Maudie in TKMB said, "Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us." Also Mr.P in ATD states, "You've been fighting since you were born. You fought off that brain surgery. You fought off those seizures. You fought off all the drunks and drug addicts. You kept your hope. And now, you have to take your hope and go somewhere where other people have hope."

A symbol that could relate to both ATD and To Kill a Mockingbird is the dead horse, in ATD the horse dies and keeps reappearing even after they tried to kill it. The reason it relates to ATD is because although the horse was killed it came back without adding harm to the reservation."Despite being burned at the dump, and burned again in the lake of fire, Stupid Horse was untouched". The quote explains that although the horse was constantly killed, the horse always came back and like the mockingbird the horse was peaceful.
