The point is that in both stories there is something whether it is a sport or animal they both have hope in them. In the excerpt from How to Kill a Mockingbird it said " ‘Your father’s right,’ she said. ‘Mockingbirds don’t do one thing but make music for us to enjoy. They don’t eat up people’s gardens, don’t nest in corncribs, they don’t do one thing but sing their hearts out for us. That’s why it’s a sin to kill a mockingbird.’ " and in ATD Mr. P tells Jr that he needs to leave the rez so that his hope won't die and he'll end up like everyone on the rez.
