This week we Began the research process of the FMP having a talk from a man who used to attend Harlow college in the middle of the week also, he rather enlightened me on the various different ideas that I could realistically do and get away with and the sort of way I want to go with regards to directing a short film while at the same time I also handed him a version of my original idea for the horror project for him to read through and give me his verdict on, he told me he liked the idea, however there was quite a way to go overall. during this I've also brainstormed out 3 very different ideas, a music video about a relationship thats teetering on a cliff edge using the song Escape by Dokken, a horror film based on nightmares I would have as a child which involves a person waking up in a field in the middle of the night, and being informed that they are being hunted by maniacs, I don't know whether I want this to be in a found footage piece or a normal third person view, and finally an idea which is more of a psychological thriller, which details a conversation between the good side of humanity and the dark side of humanity mixed in with various pieces of footage and imagery of good and bad things. such as the horrors of war and famous world dictators on the bad side, people like Mugabe and Hitler or Stalin and on the good side of things more so showing off things like the various happy festivals across the world and images of our wildlife and bringing water to underprivileged places across Africa

This week we continued with the research process on our FMP and I decided that I would work as part of a group with Kieran and Louis to make a sequel/prequel to our original horror movie project, however last week I was ill so I was forced to go home later on Tuesday so I did miss out on some valuable researching time, however throughout this week I've done some audience pieces and have created an inspiration deconstruction piece which helps massively when it comes to my own ideas onto of this I've begun to develop a Harvard referencing bibliography in order to catalogue my sources better than how I could normally.

in terms of activities that helped me this week, I have to say that the inspiration deconstruction truly helped develop my research and my technical skills in the sense that it helped me to develop a lot of my ideas as well as this. beginning my bibliography has also helped.

I looked a a couple directors who's editing styles I would love to draw from, one of these being Edgar wright, who is perhaps most famous for something which fans have named "the Cornetto Trilogy" which consists of the films, Shaun of The Dead, Hot Fuzz and The Worlds End which all three of these use distinct editing styles that are fairly on the nose, like in The worlds End there is a scene where the transition consists of 4 pint glasses being filled with beer and one filled up with water and the camera is underneath or inside these glasses being filled, a very smart editing technique.

this week I finished my inspirations worksheet, adding 2 inspirations for each of the different ideas two for the horror, two for the thriller and two for the music video, also I began and finished the project proposal, however I haven't finished my action plan and I haven't started it, I do intend to start it today and I intend to finish it by tomorrow afternoon or at the very least be close to finishing it, the project proposal had a few slight issues such as the different guidelines of how many words I have to put into each section, its difficult to get your point across in some of the sections by having to stick to 150 words and 200 words respectively, however this is something that I found very easy to overcome, though at the same time, I did the first and last sections to start and then did the middle section of the proposal last. this middle section consisted of writing out the actual project concept. and the other two sections consisted of the Rationale Planning and the Evaluation which I used to not only write out my ideas and how I would evaluate my performance come the end of the road but also the ways I would evaluate my ideas, such as going to people for their opinions on my ideas among other things.

In our final week before the end of the spring term we finished a lot of our contextual analysis for me at the very least I finished a contextual analysis piece of work, as well as completing an action plan which is attached to my project proposal below this diary entry I will be adding two photos one of the action plan and one screen capture of my contextual analysis piece, for this piece It is essentially a job role form, I added a few of my responsibilities and haven't really had time to add a photo of myself the the piece however I also was stumped in some areas just as in that responsibilities tab and a skills required tab, both are real areas where at points I struggled to think of points to put in them. however I overcame this by looking up some examples of previous job role forms, and previous Action Plans etc and taking some inspiration from these, below is a screenshot of my job role sheet.

During this week, we began the primary and secondary research process, I spent the majority of the week looking at popular prequel horror movies. I was looking for what the storytellers really wanted to tell when they wrote and directed prequel films, I also wanted to research direct editing styles to see what films were of a similar scope moving away from prequels I looked a lot when it comes to the editing at movies by Edgar wright, a lot of his screen transitions can be rather unorthodox and uncanny but also work within the film, I can remember one where 5 friends walk into a pub, 4 order beer and one water, and then it provides a scene where each glass is being filled with beer before one is comedically filled up with water and then drank by the character while his friend glares at him, this is the sort of editing and filming style that I would love to implement overall. another sort of style I would love to bring across moves away from editing, over the weekend I watched the first and second Evil Dead films, and I fell in love with the cinematography and the editing styles of the Director Sam Raimi and editing style of Edna Ruth Paul and I plan to go into these styles in much more detail next week. and I plan to push Louis to really consider this style of cinematography

this week we fully began the pre-production work, after finishing the research summary the week before and uploading it as well as on the week six diary log, this week I created two pieces of pre production work one of which was a Sound track listing where I went out and found six specific songs a number of songs that I would like to trial for ambient music as the short film goes on and one that will play as an intro too the video and yet another which will play every time that old man Langley turns up, I also created a props and costume piece on a word document in order to show what characters will be using and wearing what. I had some issues when it came to sorting out the costumes as I was unable to decide upon certain costumes such as if we should buy a new mask or look for the old one, and this was the same when it came to what weapon I would use, though eventually we settled on a machete, now I just need to order them and hope they arrive within time for filming next week, however if they do not an alternative option would be going to one of the various party shops in Harlow and in the towns around Harlow

last week on Tuesday we began the filming process and finished the filming process within around 2 days, completing the vast majority of the filming within the first day, where we went out with Stevie too the woods and filmed in the woods getting all the part with special effects makeup and things such as this out of the way as well as the large bulk of the filming which started with old man Langley being assaulted and ending with him coming back and murdering the person who assaulted him with Stevies Help we applied believable makeup to not only my face to show that I had been assaulted but to also apply some makeup to Kierans throat to show off the cut on his throat, during the second day of filming we didn't have Stevie to Rely on for the makeup so we took measures around this by having my face be hidden during the filming at all times, with my hands over my face and my hood up and after getting into the room continuing to keep my face hidden by wearing the mask at all times and putting the jacket on, following on from this, on Thursday and Friday I started and finished a rough edit for the video, the following week we intend to show it to people and gain feedback on where to go differently and where to cut down or lengthen

This week I continued and very nearly finished the creative editing process, placing all the clips as well as the music and sound effects. during this week as well I also developed a intro scene for our video, somewhat of a title card using the program adobe After Effects using some fog backgrounds and a font known as blood crow, I had the writing be in red as well to help it stand out a lot more moving on from the main criticism that I got with my video was that of the length and the length at the time was roughly 7 and a half minutes, and I've managed to wield the proverbial battle axe and cleave the video down to just over 4 and a half minutes in length onto of this, Dave was kind enough to provide us with some screen filters from famous movies from the past, such as 28 days later and SAW and we inserted this into our video and gave a bunch of different filter styles, and now the video is practically finished, for me it just needs to be watched and reviewed for any areas that could use a little bit more work just for some final little pieces of feedback,

during this week I finally finished the editing process, we finally managed to sit down and watch the whole video and be happy with the outcome, though there were a number of stumbling blocks along such as a small hiccup with the memory stick when it would just straight up refuse to let me upload a new version of the Premier Pro file onto it, I resolved this however by deleting all of the unused footage and sound effects however once again this had an unwanted side effect in that I accidentally miss-clicked and deleted a piece of footage that was still at that moment in use, though I overcame this struggle through just using a similar piece of footage for the scene instead, instead of Kieran entering the shot from the left and sitting down, the camera instead pans down from the trees to Kieran sitting down and going through my wallet instead, after this the only real issues that we had following this was a small moment where I had to painstakingly put in every piece of footage again due to moving the file around on the memory stick, but fast forwarding to Friday we exported and uploaded the video onto youtube, and I have hence asked a number of people that I know for feedback on the video and have gained mixed responses, I plan to compile screenshots and put all of these into a file later on in the coming days. below you can find an upload of my video

This week I set everything up with Stevie our special effects artist, and created the final finishing touches before we went out to film, I did have a few problems this week, but these mainly being issues with buying different pieces of our costume and props with regards to deliveries and pricing, we overcame this through splitting the price and paying a third each and then getting as many of them with amazon prime as we could, which luckily was two items and I received these items on Friday, and Saturday accordingly, through contact with Stevie as well as phone calls which unfortunately I was unable to record due to privacy of the person involved but we rescued things from the different prosthetics to use as well as the style of make up etc.
