My heart beats to the rhythm of Original Pilipino Music (OPM), and one of my favorite bands is Juan Karlos (Yes, I love him so much).

One of the aspects that JK Labajo’s music creates change in is the cultural aspect. His music reflects and shapes the Filipino culture, especially the youth culture, by using signs and symbols that are relevant and meaningful to his audience. For example, his song “Buwan” uses the moon as a signifier for his love and longing for his beloved, who is the signified. The moon is a symbol that is associated with romance, mystery, and beauty in many cultures, including the Filipino culture. The song also uses the Filipino language, which is another signifier for his identity and pride as a Filipino. The language is a symbol that is linked to the culture, history, and values of the Philippines. By using these signs and symbols, JK Labajo communicates his message and emotion to his listeners, who can relate and resonate with his music.

Another aspect that JK Labajo’s music creates change in is the political aspect. His music challenges and criticizes the political system and issues in the Philippines by using signs and symbols that are provocative and subversive. For example, his song “Sistema” uses the system as a signifier for the corruption, injustice, and oppression that he and his fellow Filipinos face, who are the signified. The system is a symbol that is often used to represent the power and authority of the government, the elite, and the institutions in society. The song also uses the color red, which is another signifier for his anger and resistance against the system. The color red is a symbol that is commonly used to express passion, violence, and revolution in many contexts, including the political context. By using these signs and symbols, JK Labajo expresses his opinion and stance to his listeners, who can question and challenge the system with his music.

JK Labajo is not just another OPM singer. He is a genius, a visionary, a rebel (LOL, I mean, he is kind of a non-conformist). He is unique and resonates with me and millions of other fans who appreciate his lyricism and pragmatism. His songs are not just catchy tunes. They are powerful statements that speak the truth and challenge the status quo, especially with this love songs. It is like he is telling me what he have gone through in his past relationship. He does not sugarcoat or compromise his message. He tells it like it is, with passion and conviction. He is not afraid to express his emotions, whether it is love, anger, sadness, or joy. He is authentic and honest, unlike some other artists who are fake and pretentious. He is not only a musician, but also MY leader, a role model, a hero (I am trying to learn to sing because of him). He inspires and motivates me to be myself (Bless U - JKL), to stand up for what I believe in (2022 PH Presidential Campaign), and to make a difference. He is one of the best thing that ever happened to OPM and Philippine pop culture. I love him so much and I will always support him and his music!!!!
