The only reason I'm a musician is because of my friend Sammy - who I met when I was 12 and they let me join their band even though I only knew 3 chords on the guitar.
We played in different band constellations 2009-2012 and from then until now we've played together as "Lady Sybil". Here's a recent video (from this summer) of a song called "The Wait" :)

This was in 2012 just before I realised that I was much more into folk/americana/harmony driven arrangements than rock... and thankfully everyone all at once decided to leave the band (divine timing??) except Sammy and we agreed to give our new genre a go!!

Obviously, without them I would not be alive!!!
But the reasons my parents play a part in my musical identity are:
My dad's a blues/country guitarist & singer. I didn't realise how much him playing country music had seeped into my subconscious until a couple of years ago.
My mum is very musical and has great music taste!! I share a lot of her favourites (Nick Cave, Nick Drake, Kate Bush, Bon Iver) :)

identity through music

I tend to write more when I'm experiencing something emotionally challenging.
I'm drawn to vulnerable & melancholic music.
I like to write about/read about/reflect on existentialism (very pretentious hahaha), life, death - a lot of antithesis metaphors about light/dark etc...
I often feel very insignificant - but I also think that is what keeps me sane??

On the flip side I LOVE POP & ELECTRONIC MUSIC but I still tend to go for that sweet melancholy viiiibe hahah :)
I find it really hard to assign myself with an identity. I'm already a gemini so it makes sense but I'm also born very close to being a cancer?! So. many. emotions!!!
This made me think of an amazing text Nick Cave wrote about how not having a fixed identity is actually an identity in itself - (I've posted a quote from it below this post, if you're anything like me it makes you feel SEEN!).
I have to stop writing now hahah!
