This is the part of the Renaissance period where ballet got popularized and more people enjoyed it. Important people also started doing ballet one important ballerina was King Louis XIV who helped popularize ballet. In 1661 (17th century) the first ballet academy Académie Royale de Danse was opened and ballet moved from the court to the stage in a ballet-opera style of ballet but Jean Georges Noverre didn't like that idea and said that ballet can stand on it's own as an art creating a new dramatic type of ballet called ballet d'action.

This is when ballet Russian choreographers Sergei Diaghilev and Michel Fokine began to experiment with movement and costume they started moving beyond the confines of classical ballet which gave us some of the modern ballet we see today but Choreographer and New York City Ballet founder George Balanchine, a Russian who emigrated to America, would change ballet even further. He introduced what is now known as neo-classical ballet, an expansion on the classical form. but in the future Choreographers will continue to create diverse styles of ballets, and ballet companies are giving dance audiences a wide range of experiences in the theater.
