In 2020, SARS-CoV-2 emerged and affected many people, but had a greater sense of deadly symptoms with elderly people, or those who were immunocompromised. This virus created the first pandemic of the 21st century, affecting every country in the world in its midst. In the span of three years, this virus has resulted in 699,484,999 cases, and 6,955,058 resulted in death. The Covid-19 pandemic and isolation created a wide spread of unrest in society and created unprecedented changes in work and society. As well, the isolation and social distancing has affected human relations and social interaction.

ChatGPT (OpenAI) is Launched

ChatGPT is an artificial intelligence chatbot built on top of OpenAI's foundational large language models (LLMs) like GPT-4 and its predecessors. This chatbot has redefined the standards of artificial intelligence, proving that machines can indeed “learn” the complexities of human language and interaction.

In its first 5 days of release, ChatGPT has over 1 million users, over the fact of the millions of possibilities of what it could do and what it was capable of. ChatGPT has permeated into various aspects of our lives. It provides us with a new way of communication, learning, working, and entertainment.

Facebook is formed

In 2004, Mark Zuckerberg invented Facebook. Although it was not the first social media to be invented, it still produced a lot of change, and defined what we now know as social media. What made Facebook unique is the ability to connect and share with the people you care about at the same time. Facebook allowed for news, videos, memes, updates on friends to be shared; and evidently made the world smaller, making it easier to reach out to people across the world, which wasnt as acessible as before. Since its launch, facebook is the most popular social media in the world, with 3.03 billion monthly active users.

Facebook enabled $227bn of economic impact and 4.5m jobs globally in 2014. Facebook enabled global economic activity by helping to unlock new opportunities through connecting people and businesses. Facebook has also become "Meta" and has grown into a brand that houses other apps such as Instagram.

Apple launches the first iPhone

The launch of the iPhone was not only revolutionary for its time, but the impacts of it are still present today. The iPhone was unlike any phone at the time (ex. the landline, Blackberry, Nokia, etc.)

The iPhone has paved the way for modern smartphone design, and has changed the way we access the world's information. Apple's iPhone revolutionized communication, playing games, watching movies, listening to music, and has affected people's lives and the way they do things.

There are 1.46 billion iPhone users, and they make up 22% of the global smartphone population. Iphones have a 58% market share, and with new versions releasing each year, Apple in its entirety is worth over a trillion dollars.

Paris Climate Accords, is an international treaty on climate change. Adopted in 2015, the agreement covers climate change mitigation, adaptation, and finance. It has 195 signatories, and it entered into force on 4 November 2016.

In difference to the Kyoto Protocol required only developed countries to reduce emissions, while the Paris Agreement recognized that climate change is a shared problem and called on all countries to set emissions targets.

Its central aim is to strengthen the global response to the threat of climate change by keeping a global temperature rise this century well below 2 degrees Celsius above pre-industrial levels and to pursue efforts to limit the temperature increase even further to 1.5 degrees Celsius. The Paris Agreement is a landmark in the multilateral climate change process because, for the first time, a binding agreement brings all nations together to combat climate change and adapt to its effects.
