Social media gives young people the ability to communicate freely from any part of the world, making it severely easier to maintain relationships. It makes people's lives more visible, allowing you to stay updated on somebody's life without being with them every day. This partly reduces the worries and insecurities between people because you know they're always just "one text away".

Social media apps and influencers create unrealistic beauty standards, which make young girls and women feel insecure about their image and overall appearance. This creates problems in most relationships because they start to think that they're not "good enough" for their partners, making up unnecessary worries inside their heads. This damages their mental health and their relationships.

The applications present us with an easy way of maintaining a relationship without putting too much effort in connecting with the other person.

I think that social networks are largely harmful to relationships because they make people more jealous and lose trust in their partner. Examples of this are sites such as Instagram, Facebook, etc. There are many couples who constantly follow each other because they simply have the opportunity or create fake profiles to text others.
Another thing that can lead to misunderstandings and even fights is the time we spend in them. Many couples break up precisely because of a lack of communication and the attention we pay to social networks.

Social media links many people across the entire globe, but it might additionally harm a few personal relationships. Miscommunication is a meaningful problem. When people interact through text, tone and body language are missed, and this can cause misunderstandings. Overusing social media could also cause emotional distance between partners, friends, or family. Scrolling through feeds rather than talking face-to-face may cause frustration and neglect. Many unrealistic depictions of relationships viewed online might further contribute to jealousy and insecurity. Unhealthy comparisons may arise when we observe the seemingly perfect lives of other people, and this causes dissatisfaction in our own relationships. Social media also can distract people, so many might easily focus on virtual connections instead of real life or become emotionally unfaithful. Secret accounts, inappropriate interactions with many others, along with hidden messages could cause multiple trust issues. Over time, the overuse and misuse of social media can severely weaken trust, intimacy, and genuine human connection, extensively damaging relationships, despite the few advantages it offers.

I think social media ruins relationships, but it isn't entirely it's fault and it does have some advantages.

The exposure that we have to other people's best moments/ looks really puts some impossible standards to most people. Even cheating is as easy it gets at the moment. You don't really have to go over the process of meeting someone in real life in order to do stuff with them, you can just text them. That being said I don't think that social media can ruin a relationship on its own. Most of the time it's an issue between the 2 people in said relationship. If you don't plan on cheating and setting unrealistic expectations on your partner based on what you consume online, then it will not be an issue.

Moving on to the benefits. In some cases (mine included) social media does let me have daily connection to my partner which I get to see only on weekends, which helps the bonding process.

Overall social media can ruin or better your relationship, but that solely depends on you and your partner.

Social media can be helpful, but it can also be dangerous for relationships. First of all, dating on social networks may not always be safe. There is no way to know who we are really communicating with through the screen. On the other hand, we have no way of really getting to know the person on the other side of the screen. We can't judge people just by their social media photos and a few private messages. Live contact will always be preferred. When two people meet for the first time, they can most easily detect chemistry between them not only by their conversations, but also by the gestures, mannerisms and energy of the other person.

Social media can hurt relationships more than it could help them . It can cause jealousy when people pay too much attention to likes, comments, or messages, making them suspicious for no reason. It also leads to misunderstandings because messages online don’t show tone or emotion making it easy to take things the wrong way. Another problem is that social media makes relationships look perfect, which can make people feel like their own isn’t good enough. Instead of bringing couples closer, it can create insecurity, distance, and unnecessary arguments. If people aren’t careful social media can slowly break trust and connection in a relationship.

To my way of thinking, social media has both positive and negative effects on connections. On one side it creates more room for people to be unfaithful in a more inconspicuous way and make them more insecure about themselves which leads to them believing they wouldn't be good enough for a relationship. On the other side, social media helps people connect by using mutual interest and creating communities. It also helps long-distance couples stay in touch more easily.
