I'm from Alpharetta, GA which is 30 minutes outside of Atlanta. I have lived there most of my life. Some of the most exciting things to do in Alpharetta are going on bike rides on the Greenway, going to Avalon (which is a fancy new outlet mall in our area with lots of fun stuff to do), and taking trips into Atlanta (my favorite place to go is the Fox Theater to see touring musicals)
