For example, I could pull words from this game, like 'Rhyme', and could then have the class work together to create a rhyme. This will expand their vocabulary, expand their schema on the words, and teach them the definitions of the words. By doing it in a "Headbands" style game, it makes learning enjoyable for the students and allows other classmates to give hints with closely related words or parts of the definition. This gives everyone the opportunity to become familiar with the word, the word's spelling, and the definition.

I selected National Geographic Kids because I used to love learning about the different animals and creatures from their magazines when I was younger.

I would use this resource in my classroom, though National Geographic Kids has surpassed the days of being exclusively a magazine. Students can read the magazines to learn about different creatures and ecosystems, but they can also visit the website to watch videos on a vast collection of topics, as well as play the educational games they offer. This will help students expand their schema on different subject areas and can help develop and expand their vocabulary.

I selected this research article because it provides teachers and parents with recommendations on how to help students who struggle with reading after they've moved on from grade 3.

I would use the recommendations from this article to ensure that I'm doing everything I can to help my students to be comprehensive readers. I would have decoding activities that use multisyllabic words, do reading activities to encourage and increase reading fluency, teach my students about things around the world and help them connect what we're reading about to things they already know, and offer them plenty of opportunities to read things that may seem difficult at first to encourage elaborative thinking.

It also displays the different letters and letter pairings that make the sounds in written text.

I will display a vowel valley in my classroom to provide my students with an immediate resource to help them learn and remember the different ways to use their mouths to produce the phonemes.
