  • Roxas City, formerly known as Capiz, is a coastal component city in the province of Capiz. It serves as the provincial capital.
  • In May 12, 1951, Republic Act No. 603 renamed what was then called “Municipality of Capiz” to Roxas City. This was in honor of its illustrious son, President Manuel Roxas, the first President of the Third Independent Philippine Republic.
  • Capiz is known for the Placuna placenta oyster shell that has the same name locally and is used for decoration and making lampshades, trays, window and doors.
