This is the practise page. The task was to make ink sketches on top of newsprint, using any kind of long object. For these pieces I used different kinds of sticks which varied in size. I used thin sticks for outlining and shaping, and larger sticks for shading. Violet and black inks used here.

This is the exercise page. Full achromatic ink sketch on newsprint. Includes reference point and full annotation. Used a higher amount of water in some places to dilute the ink and give a much lighter tone. Has a very gothic feel to it much like it is in the original image.

Practice for final piece. I did a few practice pieces where I would use different kinds of resources and techniques to see which ones I liked most and to see what would work well and what wouldn't. This piece is a watercolour. I have added salt to the brick work part which is mostly orange as the salt gives a decaying broken dirty, old look which I was aiming for due to the age of the building itself and to give it more realism. In the end I decided against using salt and substituted it for charcoal as it worked better with the colour scheme.

I did these markings and strokes when I first started using inks within my work. I did this to see if I could comfortably incorporate such kinds of ink work into future pieces. I found doing such practice pieces before practical pieces helps me gather new ideas and makes me feel more confident within my work.

Textile Final Piece: Tie-Dye Sky with Mountains and Hills

This is one of my final pieces for my textiles class. My theme was about hills & mountains. I got my inspiration from the nearby local landscape, mainly the Ochil Hills. I used a mix of tie-dye colours to give me a rainbow sky. I cut some thick green and brown fabric, bondaweb it together and used a brown stich for my finishing touches. I was very happy with the outcome. Rolling green hills, rocks and mountains against a rainbow sky.

I took some blue fabric paint to give the body of the mountain a very cold and frozen feel and green fabric paint for the grass hill at the bottom. I did this for every mountain along with a running stitch for each outline.

In my sketchbook development class I was told to start a mood board on something I was interested in. I have always had an interest in how us as humans perceive ourselves, so within the idea of natural form and the natural world, I noted down one of the most natural parts of being human, love and sexuality. This then sparked more and more ideas, I noted down my own personal gay icons, the women who started my drive for gender, sexual and racial equality, and how they make me feel confident within my day to day life and in my work. this is page 1 of 2.
