The Military Reconstruction act divided the south up into five districts, each having it's own general. It was created to make sure that the laws were being enforced and so they put a general in each district along with many soldiers. Basically, southerners hated it because it gave African Americans too much power although it did gather support for the KKK.

These are African American senators and representatives, the first of their kind in the U.S. After military reconstruction ends, and troops are pulled out of the south, there won't be another African-American in congress for another hundred years. The 15th amendment held these men achieve this by allowing the to run for office and even giving them the right to vote.

Since the end of the civil war my life has changed dramatically, some better and some worse but at least I'm not a slave anymore...although I'm treated the same way. The freedmen's bureau has tried to help and I am grateful for that but they haven't helped enough.I've had to start sharecropping with my previous owner to live. It's not a great life but at least my family and are surviving.

Was Reconstructtion a Success or Failure

The Reconstruction era was both a success and a failure. In the eyes of lincoln and johnson, it was a success although they believed that readmitting the states was all that they were going to have to do, which they did but the rest of congress believed that there was much more that needed to happen such as reducing debt and helping African Americans and poor white citizens in the south.

To do this, congress created the freedmen's bureau which was something that provided poor citizens with food, money, and basically the essentials to survive except it wasn't enough to survive off of and so poor people had to sharecrop with rich white people and were basically treated like slaves for another 75 years, so no it was not successful.
