Layoffs:
School Board approved a PKS resolution, eliminating more than 70 FTE from MDEA's bargaining unit. We anticipate tomorrow dozens of our members to get RIF notices, (pink slips or layoff notices). The law requires notice to be given by 3/15. The March 15th is a premlinary date. Final notice must be given by May 15th.

If members get a pink slip, they need to contact MDEA. They have a legal right to a hearing to make sure they should have been on the list. It also ensures the district has considered every job that the person is credentialed to teach. MDEA will be preparing and sending out a packet to everyone who gets a notice. They get legal respresentation to represent our cases. Every one of our members is entitled to participate in that. If a member gets a notice, be supportive of them, because it's tough. On May 15th, the district will issue final notices. Things may happen between now and then. The district may pull their head out of the ground and rescind those notices. If they rescind before 5/15 or by the end of the school year, they never lost their job. Friday, June 3rd, can apply for unemployment.

2 Release days are allowed to go and look for a job somewhere else.

Notice will arrive by certified mail.

A non-reelect can only be given to a prob 1 (by 6/30) or a prob 2 (by 3/15). Temp employees just get a notice that ends the position. A non -reelect does not carry rehire rights. RIF notices do get these rights.

Covered by Article 5 in the contract and a recent MOU. It has been shared through a constant contact message. An involuntary transfer can only happen for a limited number of reasons.

-Fewer positions at the site
-Must happen according to Seniority
-Notice of Involuntary Transfer will go out to the person along with a list of known vacancies. They can select from the list. If you don't get a job from the list, you are "unassigned" and FTE stays the same. District is required to pay you and to find you another job.

Timeline pushed back from March to end of April, early May. Done because the district will better know what we need later, and it will be more useful rather than a waste of time.
