The Roman Army consisted of sections called legions, which could be further divided to cohorts. Each legionnaire, as they were called, carried with them gladiuses (short swords), which they were very skilled at killing with. When service caused legionnaires to head to the frontiers of the Roman Empire, they wrote home all the time asking for warm clothes and information on current events. But service was not without mutiny, because in 14 AD, mutiny broke out in the Roman Empire under Tiberius because the soldiers believed that Tiberius was not keeping the spirit of the Roman Army. Tiberius sent Germanicus, a well liked general to resolve the issue, which he eventually did by sending away his wife and son. As the mutiny was over, later Emperors realized that loyalty was always closer to the legionnaire commander rather than the Emperor himself, meaning that a discontent army was something unwanted.

There were 60 legions, each made up of 10 cohorts, with up to 480 men in each, when Augustus came into power. The minimum service was 20 years. In 14 AD, a huge mutiny broke out in central Europe, and the empire learned that the army was essential for them to exist. Weapons for legionnaires to use included: a sword, javelin, shield, helmet, armor, and a pack of supplies to bring along. The army was very politically important to the empire, as the Emperors well knew. It also made a mutinous army a powerful enemy.

Legionares were equipped with a gladius, (small sword) a pilum, a helmet, armor, shield and a pack of supplies. Mutany was an uprising concept especially during the rule of Tiberius, so he sent his nephew Germanicus to resolve the protests. Him, his wife, and son were very respected among the soldiers so when he sent his family away in fear of harm the soldiers were ashamed. This taught a lesson, that the empire could not function without the loyalty of the soldiers, yet the loyalty could not be taken for granted . Also, a discontented army was a powerful army and a popular commander was a threat.

The roman army was one of the most successful in history. They had been trained well with discipline and stamina as well as with a gladius also known as a sword, a pilum also known as a javelin, a helmet, a shield, armor, and a pack that supplied them with almost everything else they could have possibly needed. During the rule of Augustus, soldiers were required to serve for at least 20 years and there was about 60 legions which had cohorts of 480 men. Many people wrote letters as their method of socializing or spreading news to others. Rome was not able to keep their promise of land so a mutiny broke out between the legions in Central Europe. Because the soldier basically ran the army, loyalty was a major part in keeping the soldiers on their side and in the empire according to Germanicus.

Soldiers used very well-made weapons and were trained how to kill with them very effectively. Their weapons included a Short Sword, Spear, and other weapons. They fought with a helmet and Armour but had supplies given to them by the army. They made sure to write home in their free time and did so with an intricate system of delivery. However, when Tiberius took over Rome mutiny broke out and soldiers started killing officers. This led to the ultimate downfall of the roman army for the time being.

Each Legionnaire carried a gladius, javelin, helmet, armor, shield and a pack with supplies. Soldiers were trained to march long distance, an fight in a formation. Soldiers often spent most of there free time asking for news and warm clothes. As a legionnaire would retire they were given a plot of land to farm as a reward of there lifetime for there loyal service. Rome was not always able to keep there promise of land in 14 AD a mutiny broke out among legions in central Europe soldiers complained that Rome was not keeping there promises there was looting and soldiers started killing their officers. Tiberius sent Germanicus, a general they would consider as there own to resolve the issue, which he eventually did by sending away his wife and son. As the mutiny was over it taught them that the soldiers were loyal to their emperor, this loyalty was nothing to compare to the loyalty felt by many legions to their commanders.
