- Low Key lighting connotes mystery and may link to Driver's icy exterior. It's also a convention of thriller.

- Cars are a motif as they can be seen throughout the opening, hinting that the narrative may be about cars, traveling and fleeing.

- Dark blue tint/ filter may be mirroring Driver's feelings and emotions= sorrow or a tragedy in his past.

- Travels with a bag which may be a plot device to the narrative

- Serious facial expressions (not smiling, straight face) establishing the serious tone to the film.

- Set in the city at night which is a thriller convention. Cities are busy so it's less obvious to commit crimes. It may also imply that it contains important people in the industry as they will be living and working in the central business district.

- Changing places= hiding identities.

- Robber's masks= hiding identities and conveying the theme of crime and violence.

- Smoking= masculine stereotype.

- Common cars= easy to hide and blend in.

- Slow tracking movement following the characters and observing them. This makes the audience feel more part of the scene.

- Close up to show Driver's facial expressions. A long shot wouldn't be able to illustrate this as well as it will be too far for the audience to see and pick up.

- Low angle depicts the main character as being powerful.

- Slow zooming adds suspense and tension

- Slow panning of an establishing shot of the city shows the setting and establish that the city is busy and still awake.

- Dissolve to another scene

- Fonts of the credits and texts shown is not a simple and straight fonts, which tells that the narrative of the film will not be simple rather it will be a complex story.

- The colour in whole are mostly black and hot pink and blue, which is the iconography of the Venice beach, so there might be something related to that beach.

- Use of star power.

- Continuity editing to make it more realistic.

- Fast party music [Contrapuntal to the miss-en-scene and the narrative of the movie]

- Dialogue of man talking on the phone denotes only one side of the perspective putting the audience on his side.

- Slow music building tension and sound bridge connecting the narrative together.

- Sirens linking to the crime sub-genre and conveying that someone's in danger or in pain.

- Lack of dialogue connotes that the character may like to be mysterious and in secret. Silence also tells very little about the narrative making the audience more engaged with the mise en scene. It also adds the idea of darkness and danger.
