- Cars are a motif as they can be seen throughout the opening, hinting that the narrative may be about cars, traveling and fleeing.

-  Dark blue tint/ filter may be mirroring Driver's feelings and emotions= sorrow or a tragedy in his past.

- Travels with a bag which may be a plot device to the narrative

- Serious facial expressions (not smiling, straight face) establishing the serious tone to the film.

- Set in the city at night which is a thriller convention.  Cities are busy so it's less obvious to commit crimes. It may also imply that it contains important people in the industry as they will be living and working in the central business district.

- Lack of dialogue connotes that the character may like to be mysterious and in secret. Silence also tells very little about the narrative making the audience more engaged with the mise en scene.
