How memory is reconstructive and prone to error

I learned in my psychology class that memory can be reconstructed. When you remember something you remember it based off how you perceived it and what you were told about it. The study we saw in class to support this is a study by Loftus and Palmer. These psychologists successfully reconstructed people's memories of an event by using key words when interviewing. Therefore, we can never be sure if our memories are truly accurate and all the memories that make up who we are, are flawed. So, we can never really know who we are, we just know altered versions and can infer who people think we are.

From what I understood of this, the narrating self is when you tell a memory or a past experience and the experiencing self is when you are in the moment. I think when we experience something, we are still determining how we want to perceive the moment and if we decide to turn it to long term memory, we decide how we want to remember it.
