The name of this piece is "Tenement Flats" done by an artist named Millard Sheets. I chose this piece because I think it accurately portrays the "Hoovervilles" of American cities. These areas were very low income housing that many people lived in during the great depression, and were very crowded much like this photo.

While I am a huge fan of art and painting, I have to agree with the statement and say that government funds should have been directed to thing solving immediate emergencies. According to 1934: The Art of The New Deal, "a total of $1,184,000" was spent on artwork. I do believe that keeping some of the artists employed and painting ws important, but while capital buildings were being painted, citizens were freezing or starving to death. I believe that the food and warmth situations should have been addressed before painting.

The piece is "The Sky Pond" by Paul Kauvar Smith. I decided on this piece because it displays one of the parts of the new deal. Some of the programs that FDR started as mentioned in the lecture had to do with hiring individuals to help take care of the planet and work on restoration projects.

With the amount of money the government was using to pay for the New Deal programs only necessities should be focused on. As mentioned in American Yawp Chapter 23 FDR was already getting some resistance so by adding things that are not necessities there would likely be greater opposition.
The focus on the new deal should be on the needs of people not additional luxuries.

This piece artwork is called the "Black Panther" by Alice Dinneen in 1934. I choose this piece because it showed the unnecessary and exotic taste of people in the 1920s. People who lived in the city were despite for anything that was not part of the daily life. Whether it be a movie, show, or the zoo, the city people wanted something new and interesting just like this photo.

I believe that artwork is very beautiful and very important to culture. I think that we should have artwork to look back on to admire and compare to the future. However; I also believe that with the hardships America was going through, all the money should have gone directly to emergencies and other important necessities. I think tax payer money should go to the necessary items we need in life to survive such as food relief, economic stimulus, etc.

Old Pennsylvania Farm in winter by Arthur E. Cederquest. I chose this picture because it reminds me of Michigan in the winter. It reminds me of the new deal because some people moved west to get out of the winter weather. It was tough to live in and you cant farm in it. also it was difficult to make money during the great depression as mentioned in the American Yawp chapter 23 section 2.

I believe the money the government spent was in fact spent incorrectly. Our main focus should of been the hungry, freezing citizens of our nation going through a difficult time. Many people were stuck in "hoovervilles" (American Yawp chp. 23 sec. 5) in which the government could have provided money to help build safer communities.
