James is given antibiotics and comes out of treatment healthy, surviving the anthrax. Upon his arrival back at Cherub, the leader of the campus awards James a navy colored shirt, a sign of great accomplishment and bravery on a mission. James comes out of basic training and his first mission a totally different character than he was presented as at the start of the novel. Although he still acts childish at times due to his age, he is a much more respectable and intelligent individual, who has learned selflessness and the ability to be a disciplined young man, excited to continue his life as a Cherub Agent
