1. What was something new or thought about in a different way that you learned this week and why?
This week week we talked about best practice, promising practice, and emerging practice. I was unaware of what any of the three practices consisted of and what they entailed so it was interesting to learn the differences between the three. It was also interesting to hear where other groups placed HPW techniques and programs into each category compared to ours.

2.Based on best practices, how can you apply what you know in you career choice as a Health Promotion Manager?
I believe that you should use best practice as much as you possibly can in your career path. It has been studied the most and has been proven most effective so that is what is going to move yourself and others forward in the best way. However that doesn't mean you should never use emerging or promising practice either. It just means that you should err on the side of caution when using these practices because they haven't been studied as long as best practices have. You should even incorporate your own style and way of doing things to potentially create an emerging practice as well.

3.What do you want to learn more about, and why?
I am hoping to learn more about the best ways to go about managing and working with a variety of populations but still being able to appeal to the majority. It is important to know about how to deal with a variety of populations because you will work with many throughout your career.

1. What made you curious this week?
It was interesting to me reading the book Influencer and learning about the concept of simple 7. Simple 7 seems so easy to obtain in theory, however it is really hard to motivate people into changing their behaviors and routines. Figuring out how to make the undesirable, desirable is a constant learning curve.

2. What about your thinking, learning, or work this week brought you the most satisfaction? Why?
I enjoyed creating my mindmap and getting to begin the steps of working on my genius hour project. Getting to relate my work into my field of interest gave me the most satisfaction this week.

3. How did you help the class learn this week? If you feel you didn't add to class or feel the need to contribute more consider what can you do next week to help other learners more?
I helped the class learn this week by actively participating in my group by sharing ideas and thoughts. I think I can do a better job of sharing my insights with the whole class however and contribute more to whole class discussion.

1. How can you interpret the information presented so far in the Influencer book to reflect on this statement? What principles help you agree or disagree with the statement?
I really like how the Influencer talks about using SMART goals as a tool to undergo future change. Change is something people struggle with the most on their journey to wellness but helping to create goals is a great way in keeping people motivated and on track. Having a goal or even goals in life is a great way to boost your positivity as well which will overall influence your wellness. Having a positive outlook on your journey is going to make you more likely to be successful.

2. What is your vision of wellness using the principals promoted in Workplace Wellness that Works book? Use Putnam's to imagine what is possible to create an innovative wellness program.
I want my workplace to be full of acceptance and an air that lets ideas flow through freely. I want to be able to influence the youth around me to understand the importance of wellness and how truly rewarding it can be. Everyone has a different idea of wellness so as long as the importance of wellness is being emphasized, that will be the key to keeping everyone on board.

1. Can you identify one way all the material we have covered (through Wed. Feb. 20) links together in a best, promising, or emerging practice methodology?
I believe that you can really link everything we have covered in class into best, promising, and emerging practices. It is kind of like a cycle with everything constantly evolving and where no practices are staying static. We have talked a lot about creating a positive work environment and what that means to us individually. I've come to the conclusion that there will never be a "best practice" that encompasses everyone at one time. You can do your best to please the majority but everyone is going to be filled with different ideas and different preferences on what works best for them. I think that in creating a more positive work culture it's going to be a never ending effort. You need to be constantly changing and adding more to it to keep striving for that best practice.

We are figuring out a solution to mental health and burnout, which is a topic that is not often discussed or has an embarrassing stigma attached to it. No one wants to admit they struggle with mental health but by putting it out in the open and by creating solutions that create resiliency in youth will begin to break down the stigma.

I want to share my insights with other young athletes because that is when I myself found my passion in life. I want to give young athletes, especially young female athletes, the knowledge and discipline they will need in order to succeed. I think it is so important to show female youth in particular that being strong, both mentally and physically, is one of the best attributes you can carry on with you throughout life. Through strength and conditioning I want to influence other youth to become the best athletes and the best humans they can be. I find that youth are the most receptive to knowledge and advice and you really have the chance to be someone extremely influential in their lives.

How would you use Putnam's ideas of "Creating Meaning" for the population you are targeting in the topic for your Genius hour? As the opning states, we have to help them know their "WHY." What of the many ideas presented this week help you get buying from your group?

I want to create meaning in the youth athlete population. Our target population makes up over 8 million youth in America which means there is enough work to be done that would take over a lifetime to accomplish. We are focusing on mental health and creating resiliency because it is something taboo that is often not talked about or thrown shame at. Youth mental health issues affect all youth including youth athletes and there needs to be a shift that encourages the openness of talking about these issues and how to both overcome and prevent them. We have received a lot of great feedback from our classmates that tells me that is is a really important topic that many people in the room have experienced without really a solution. Youth are the future of our world and we need to continue to instill this sense of resiliency not just in athletics but in their every day lives as well. If they burn out young it is going to be harder to keep them on track to a positive journey through wellness.

How does your Genius Hour project use or build social capital? Use specific ideas from the Influencer book to support your reflection.

Putnam Chapter 3:9 covers experiential learning and concepts involved in that model. How can you help those you want to change behaviors use the experiential learning theory and develop the growth mind set?

Our Genius Hour project is able to use social capital by taking two people interested in similar topics but with two completely different backgrounds, ideas, thoughts, and experiences, and combining them into one to create a more synergetic project. We are creating this project for the greater good despite what we each individually want. We are taking the feedback we are receiving and changing our project to encompass the masses rather than our own personal thoughts and needs. Using the experiential learning theory our population will be able to reflect on their past experiences to prepare them to change in the future with the integration of new ideas and concepts given to them. They will then experiment with their new growth mind set and see if it makes a difference through performance and behavior.

Chapter 2:8 in Influencer and Chapter 3:7 in the Worksite Wellness That Works both address how to motivate individuals in changing behavior. How would you use this information to create a motivating way to get people to adopt the behavior you are addressing in your genius hour project?

Motivating individuals to change their behavior can sometimes seem like an impossible task but through Worksite Wellness That Works you are able to see so many great examples of how to produce behavior change. I think the biggest way to get coaches and athletic directors on board to our genius hour project is by using incentives. The incentive here is to get coaches to see the big picture; better coaching is going to produce better results. The coaches are going to see it as a way to improve the athlete which will in turn create a better team that produces more wins. More wins for the coach and school district will allow more funding for their school. The coaches see dollar signs and recognition for their championship team however we are really creating this for the betterment of the athlete. By incentivizing the coaching with both intrinsic and extrinsic motivation we will be able to reach a larger number of athletes and impact their lives for the better.

Her influence has helped give other female athletes opportunities they may not have seen otherwise. Rousey is able to demonstrate that women can dominate in any scenario especially a scenario that has been dominated by men. I am able to learn a lot from Rousey as I am entering into a career, strength and conditioning, which is also a field dominated by men. Rousey's ability to feel comfortable in her own skin and her assertiveness pushes her ahead of the rest and allows her to take any situation head on; this causes others to follow her lead. Getting others to respect and listen to you are the keys to being an effective influencer and as Rousey has those skills down pat, I wish to grow those skills the best I can.
