In the middle ground of the picture, the boy is seen picking up trash with his bare hands. Without proper protection from the diseases in the trash, which would be wearing gloves, the boy may contract these illnesses. Without proper medication, it may also be fatal to him. He may also cut him self on sharp pieces of rusted metal, and contract tetanus. In the right side of the foreground and middle ground, the boy is also seen to be very skinny, which makes him more vulnerable to succumbing to his illnesses.

Another hazard he could face is falling and injuring himself. In the foreground and background, much debris is seen. He could step on something sharp and get cut, or fall down due to tripping over something, or slipping on some trash. This is even more likely to occur after heavy rain as the ground would be wet.

These debris have been exposed to the elements, such as the sun and rain, for long periods of time. They could have rusted or decayed. The scavengers are also touching these pieces of debris with no protection, just merely with their bare hands. They describe it as "their line of work", which suggests that they do this regularly. Regular exposure to such debris with no protection could let them contract an allergic reaction or a skin disease, due to such unsanitary conditions.

Another possible hazard could be that the scavengers may get physical harm from picking up and walking on old pieces of debris. In the middleground and background, the bottom of Photgraph A is filled with old, lose and large pieces of debris, as well as sharp metallic materials. These matellic materials are exposed to the sun and rain, hence it could become rusty over time. These metallic materials are sharp as well. The boy in the foreground is walking on it without any protections, with only thin clothing on their body. When scavenging, the scavengers could cut themselves, on the rusty metallic objects and decayed debris. This will cause them physical harm.

The open wound may get infected and cause severe health risks to these scavengers.
Another possible hazard is the spread of water-borne diseases such as cholera. When it rains, a lot of rainwater gets collected and trapped due to all the rubbish and waste on the mountain, at the foreground and background of the photograph, which could lead to a spread of water-borne diseases.
