Corpora work is key in the future of principled EAP, I feel, and we at King's College are moving towards more lexis in subject-streaming. 

We are lucky to have a few colleagues (and one in particular) who are dedicated to the examination of students' knowledge and use of vocabulary. 

I'd like answers to questions such as how much the AWL applies across subject areas, how much GE makes up of the same and how much specialist terminology (such as that in the Business Service List) makes up of texts (and therefore should be a focus for teachers). 

A colleague mentioned above is already doing great work on the working vocabulary students have and the big questions are about how to motivate instrumentally-motivated students to keep working on their language when they consider it a tool and no more.

Watching a video on classroom practice gave me pause for thought on how much I assume students will "get" without actually teaching it.

A few years ago I created materials that highlight flax and (some of) its uses, but I never allowed the sort of time we saw Nick give over to help students understand the depth and relevance of the tools. 

When I think back to my most productive periods learning to use a range of classroom tech, the one thing I had was time. Having mastered some tools, I have shown them to students and left them to it without giving them the classroom time they need to be able to learn to fully exploit them in the way I can.

I'm not sure it directly qualifies as a tool, but the module on VLEs was probably my favourite in that it spurred me on to look again at Moodle and what can be done with it.

I had made H5P exercises before and added Google Docs into a Moodle page but the combination of tools here and encouragement to explore further gave me the motivation to try out embedding tools I knew (Padlet, Quizlet) into Moodle page that had been a simple Word document previously. 

I did not get to use this with students but I will see what I can include on the Moodle sites that are being built for the summer pre-sess.
