2. What does it means to be a "global citizen"? A global citizen is someone who seeks to know what the needs of all people are and is not concerned only with himself. Is someone who is sensitive to the suffering of others because he recognizes him as a member of the same Family. It is also someone who feels the obligation of serving the others with his qualities, whatever are that qualities. And a global citizen is someone that knows that we only have one house, and each one of us has the responsibility to take care of it, for the present generation but also for the future generations.

4. What are the ways in which texts, topics, or ideas in your classroom have benefited from contributions from other communities, cultures, and nationalities?

As I mentioned before in my school we don’t have many opportunities to experience the richness of having people from distinct cultures in our classroom. So, besides some readings that we can do, whenever we have students from other countries or that have different life experiences we invite them to share their views on some subjects in which we think they can contribute with different perspectives.

5. How can you help your students understand the importance of international understanding as it relates to your course?

In the areas that I referred in answer to question number 3, we see documentaries, interviews or read papers that are discussed in classroom. When we are teaching different biology subjects (and also Geology) we are always making connections, so it becomes clear that in nature everything is connected. It is also very important to discuss the nature of scientific knowledge, how it is build and how can that knowledge be used to the service of humankind and of the planet earth.

6. What activities have you carried out in your class that have knowingly or unknowingly highlighted or celebrated international-mindedness?

Our reflections in the classroom sometimes have reflection in all the school community, for example with a campaign to reduce food waste, promoting recycling or alerting for the dangers of bullying and cyberbullying. We also develop some research work in different fields of biology that are presented in a public meeting. In some of these meetings we try to show how science can really change the life of many people.
