Foreigners and tourists must have their passport on them at all times.
Drinking alcohol is allowed on the street.
Certain over-the-counter medications that are legal in the US and Canada are illegal in Japan.
Smoking is allowed in most restaurants and bars, but not everywhere outdoor.
You can be fined for not reporting an explosive to the police.
Women who have gotten divorced have to wait six years to marry again, and if you have a child within those six years, that child is legally your ex-husbands.
If a child is born to a foreign mother, the father must recognize the child to become a Japanese citizen. You are not allowed to damage or throw away any money, and if you do, you can be fined up to ¥200,000 or spend a year in prison.
You can't brew alcohol at home that is more than one percent alcohol.
Marriage will be invalidated if you married the wrong person (for example, if your parents give you an arranged marriage, but you marry someone else).

People with non Japanese passports are allowed to leave Japan.
Your not allowed to dance at some night clubs.
Japan is a civil law country but the United States and Canada are mostly a common law country.
