I hold the opinion that the lockdown really slowed the spread of COVID-19. India has more 1 lakh beds and over 600 hospitals for treating coronavirus patients, and these facilities are being expanded is a major feat. The stricter measures being taken are a good step forward. However, many people are skeptical of the measures being taken to sustain the economy. Senior Congress leader Abhishek Manu Singhvi compared it to Hamlet "[without the] Prince of Denmark". Shashi Tharoor welcomed the move to extend the lockdown but said the PM "should have also announced serious relief for those who cannot make ends meet". 
Congressman, P Chidambaram, was more scathing: "There is money, there is food, but the government will not release either money or food. Cry, my beloved country."

I also agree that the efforts put during the past weeks to practice social distancing were valuable for the safety of the country. Maybe some of them get paid daily wages under normal circumstances however, with the current situation, individuals under poor living conditions are vulnerable and can be infected easily. Some of these people may not even have access to technology and they may not be aware of the pandemic. It would be nice if the government would do something about this. As the prime minister suggested we take care of the poor families, it's difficult to do this in lockdown.

Amidst something as impactful as the virus, there is a lot of room for political change, where parties can implement their ideologies in the form of relief and show their credibility through their plans of action during the crisis. Personally, I can understand why people may be concerned about poverty levels since India isn't completely developed, but I'm fairly certain that the government will improve welfare schemes and rations with time. The outbreak was sudden and India was lucky to have curbed the virus as soon as possible, with the first lockdown having reduced the number of cases and deaths. Hence, expecting countries to be able to consider economic, social, health, municipal, and political matters all at once is quite ambitious. Rather than emphasizing what the government is not doing, acknowledging improvement and  collaborating with renowned social workers/organizations and reputable scientists/pundits is a much better approach on a diplomatic and civilian level.
