I think composition is important because learning how to compose your photographs adds a sense of professionalism and interests the viewer. I think I have a strength in using the rule of thirds as I have used this previously in high school. Leading lines also interests me. I feel as if the golden ratios (rectangle/triangle) are very difficult to capture because of the shapes you need, that aren't often seen everyday.

I think annotation should include analysis, which is very different to description. This is because analysis is what the photo or art form means to someone, and how they perceive it. Description is much more wide. Descriptive writing focuses on the appearance of the artwork, using adjectives and paying attention to detail.

In this type of photography composition skills are needed to arrange the objects on the page.  Furthermore, you need to consider time management throughout the stages, such as developing and drying etc. In addition, being able to measure the volume of chemicals accurately is important too. 

My major challenges with this kind of photography is getting the desired affect I want. I think it is vital to know this information as you can use it to your advantage when trying to make successful prints. Shutter speed allows you to have so much control, which I have discussed in my evaluation. I find controlling shutter speed challenging as I'm not used to the values and the settings. Especially having to co-ordinate it along with aperture and ISO. A valuable tactic I've learned to use when I don't know what shutter speed value to use is matching the shutter speed to the focal length. In addition, I think practice and time will help me overcome the challenges I face. Aperture controls the focus and the depth of photographs. It also controls the amount of light that is allowed into the lens, as the aperture actually means the hole in the lens created by blades. This camera control allows you to play with the focus, and gives you more knowledge as you can change the ISO and the shutter speed with the aperture. Controlling apertures is hard for me because sometimes I want a deep depth of field but I want a good amount of light at the same tine and I find it difficult to reach that. I think working well in teams is skill you acquire. Luckily in my previous school we did a lot of team work and I am therefore familiar to it. I was comfortable in the teams I was put in as I naturally take the place of a leader and/or a team player. Sometimes working with others can be difficult, especially if you are wanting to do your own thing, but I think co-operation and communication is key. How might it be improved in the future? I think I struggled with working in complete darkness, and I also feel quite anxious while using film cameras incase I ruin everything if I’m honest. I think I leant on the moving too slowly side of things rather than too fast, as I took much longer with the taking photos process than I would if I was using a digital camera. But I think there is also beauty in that, taking time to think about each individual photograph.

Not a lot went well but I think that practice makes perfect, I definitely didn’t get the hang of printing my film as I kept making mistakes and didn’t get a final result, I only got test strips. I think with exposure in printing, you can control the light more. When making cyanotypes etc you're light source (the sun) is unpredictable, whereas in the darkroom you can use the aperture lens to alter the brightness. Moreover, when developing film in the darkroom you can change the amount of exposure, you can experiment with this using test strips.

For me, I think the most important area of knowledge was learning about composition as I still keep those rules in mind when I'm shooting. Learning about composition helped me to improve my photography overall and add to my skills. Regarding the dark room I think I work better alone because I can focus and get on with my work. My key strengths were concentration and time management, but I need to improve on my stress levels in the darkroom and my confidence towards the film processes.

Considering time-management, I think I worked at a good pace and I got things done with time to spare or I finished them on time. I took care to not spend too much time taking the photographs as I know developing the negatives and the prints takes much longer.

To continue, considering confidence, I think that I asked for help at reasonable times, in fact sometimes I avoided it because I wanted to accomplish things on my own. Therefore, I think I don't ask for help enough. Aperture controls the amount of light that is allowed into the lens, and depth of field controls the focus. Regarding aperture, f2 means it allows half of the light that a fully open lens would let in. The aperture range on your camera is fixed, you can't use an aperture value that isn't there. Aperture values range from f3.5 to f22 OR from f5.6 to f36 depending on the camera. Think of the numbers as fractions, f32 is 1/32 whereas f10 is 10/32, meaning that the bigger the f number, the smaller the aperture/size of camera hole.  (A/Av sign)

Evaluation of my final print:
I am happy with this outcome but the image is quite grey, it isn't as contrasted as I'd like it to be but I was finding it difficult to get the balance right. 5-Press the shutter and pull the film advance a few times so that you're not using the fogged part of the film.

I'm still struggling with producing test strips but I didn't produce as many failed test strips this week as I did last week. I also spent less time in the dark room this week, meaning I was being more efficient and the method came easier to me. 

I am still finding waiting times difficult in the darkroom, as you have to wait for your prints to chemically develop, and I'm an impatient person. But I think the more I do this, the more patient I will become.

This image was my favourite so I decided to do a big print of it too. I think the larger version adds more texture and amplifies the image overall. Regarding blur, I have learnt that you can morph your subject in different ways. Firstly, I shook the camera itself to create a ghost like effect. Then, I told Chloe (the subject) to move her head, which created a blurred mess of her features. I realised that I could expand on this by getting her to move in different directions, horizontal, vertical, rotational and randomly. This developed my images as I had many different results from experimenting. I like street photography but I find it challenging to get interesting outcomes with a limited amount of time to shoot on a normal day. This could help me in the future if I decide to experiment with this field of photography.

Out of the skills we gained this week, editing in photoshop has to be my favourite. I really like editing as it is a fun process that I find quite calming. I enjoyed editing my images from the nude shoot into black and white and emphasising their beauty.
I believe that this skill will be the most useful to me in the future as a lot of modeling/professional photo-shoots require touch-ups and editing.

I liked all of my images before editing, but I think that the editing has made the red stand out more, and it makes it apparent what my theme is. I cropped many of my images to focus on an individual, or to fit in multiple red elements, and I like these compositions. Street photography started in 1826 when the first street photograph was taken, by Joseph Nicéphore Niépce in France. The image was of a man getting his boots shined. However, the
mid-1960s and early-1970s was the golden age of street photography when famous photographers started, such as Lee Friedlander.

inspiration
I am inspired by the photo series by Raj Sarkar, in which he photographed animals in the street. His images are all black and white, and I may do the same, but I will shoot in colour so I have the option of keeping them in colour, or editing them in black and white.

Secondly, Elliot Erwitt's street photography that focuses on dogs has inspired me too. I love this photo, it includes people and animals, which is something I want to include in my images. I think street photography is all about people, as they're what makes an urban area, which is why I love that the people are still the focus, they are the center of the frame. I have between 12:45 and 4:40 to shoot, which is around 4 hours. In this time I want to be able to take a variety of photographs for experimentation. I am going to be experimenting with viewpoint, and framing, so I will be taking more time for my shots. Moreover, I will be walking around Clapham to discover natural things in the street, rather than going to a specific location, so I will need more time.

I used a black and white filter called infrared, which made the highlights and shadows stand out instead of making the images seem dull and neutral. My photographs focus on the nature elements but also include the  street background. I like the contrast, and the close up images I took to try and capture detail. In addition, I like the simple but effective compositions I used, excluding anything distracting from the background.
