The learning is communicated to the students through Focus Questions that allows them to better internalize the daily learning. They also allow us to create activities that are directly related to the learning and creates context and relevance to the learning. The second inservice is deliberately connecting and providing focus questions that they can relate to themselves and the big picture of what we want them to learn. The third inservice was comparing focus vs. essential questions and their practical application in the classroom. In other words, create an entrance for everyone, remind them often, use them as an assessment at the end. Among the tools that we have discussed are the use of essential questions, focus questions, and formative assessment. All planning needs to be relevant to and accessible by all of the students. Most importantly, planning needs to focus on what students are learning and not what they are doing.
