Beginning

Inigo Montoya starts as the antagonist. We view him as a goofy villain trying to capture the princess. We know he is a good swordsman.

We then learn that Inigo has been practicing swords play so that he can kill his father's murderer. He is astounded with the man in black, or Westley's, bravery when he fights with him.

Rising Action 2

When we learn more about Inigo's past, we start to realize his problems. He was traumatized by the six-fingered man killing his father. He trained for 10 years in swords play to fight his father's killer. When he couldn't find the man, he got in a bout of depression and alcoholism. This makes his change even more powerful.

Rising Action 3

During their adventures trying to save Westley and trying to get into the kingdom for various reasons, we start to realize how mentally strong and smart he is. He immediately goes to the wizards house to try and heal Westley from dying. He helped plan the entry to the castle.

Climax and Resolution

When Inigo finds the six-fingered man, he fights him strongly. He has such a strong desire to kill him and avenge his father. Then he gets stabbed and starts to fall, he thinks he has failed, he realizes that he must do this and that he can, he fights and kills the six-fingered man. Based on these events alone, we can see that Inigo Montoya has gained confidence and that although he may falter, he will always get back up and stay strong. He has learnt bravery, wit, and how you need to get back up on your feet.
