Elisa Allen

Elisa is the main character in the story. She is the one who changes the most throughout the whole story.

Elisa is a thirty-face year old woman. Her face is meaty and strong and her eyes were sky blue. She has a beautiful figure, but it's mainly blocked by her gardening outfit. She is mentally upset through the story from the lack of attention from her husband. Her moral is just average, she doesn't really have a higher moral. Her behavior throughout the story basically stays the same. She is pretty quiet at the beginning because she doesn't really have anyone to talk to since her husband rarely pays attention to her.

Elisa doesn't particularly have an antagonist. The closest thing she has to an antagonist is Henry, and I wouldn't consider him hostile or an enemy to Elisa.

The way Elisa speaks reveals that she liked the attention from the tinker. She hardly had anyone to talk to her because her husband was always preoccupied.

If the story would've been told in first person by Elisa, I think the story would've went deeper into her feelings about her husband not showing her attention. The true hurt that she was dealing with. The attention he would give others, but not his own wife.

Elisa just wants to be happy and feel loved by her husband. Her motivation is understandable because her husband doesn't pay enough attention to her. Most people in a relationship will act like they want to be around one another, but that isn't the situation with Elisa and Henry.

Elisa does understand her motivation. She wishes to have a family and kids, but the lack of attention from Henry is a trouble spot in her dream.

Elisa just deals with not really talking to her husband or really seeing her husband. She learns that he obviously isn't going to make any effort in showing her attention She goes to a fight not to watch it, but so she could actually be able to spend time with her husband.

Although the story doesn't say much about Henry, the reader can infer that he is kind of self consumed. He has a wife that he doesn't really pay attention to. At the beginning of the story, it states that "..there was little work to be done.." which means that maybe he wasn't ignoring his wife or putting second. Him not showing up in the story might just mean that he was really busy working on the farm and keeping it maintained.

The tinker is only presented in the middle of the story while Elisa in caring for her flower garden. The story didn't really go into much detail of him, but the reader can infer that he is a con man. He was talking Elisa into helping him make a living. He made her feel like they had some kind of connection when he asked for some chrysanthemum seeds.
