Library Transistion by Jessica Robinson

What would you like the library to look like next year? How could you accommodate a collection of books in your classroom?

Next year, the library space & books will be gone but the librarians will remain! How do you see them continuing to provide a library program for you and your students? For example, in-class project support with information evaluation, crediting sources, research strategies?

I would love to see the Art Space filled with shelves, books, and seating for students. I think this could be another place where students could read and work togther. I could accomadate storing books on shelves or in my closet, but I would prefer not to have a standing cart in my room.

I would love to see the art spot being used to store LS books. Perhaps it could be temporarily partitioned off? I don't think I can accommodate books in my office, especially since I will potentially have another person in my office. I would love for the librarians to have an idea of where the library books are being stored so that we can easily find a book when we want to use it.

Our space is going to be limited for the year. We are researching a space to hold some theme books. We would like a cart placed in the workroom with books that support our RW and WW units. Also books that will be used during Library time each week. Some storytelling projects might be interesting because of being in the classroom.

In Preschool we are a little worried about ensuring we have access to books for our Monthly theme since we switch them out every 3 weeks. We will have some space to store books but otherwise we hope to have them available.

We want to continue to have a "library special" where a librarian comes into our classroom to read.

Carts outside each classroom with books that we've used in the past for specific RW, WW, or Social Studies units would be great. Having to create a list on the e-catalog has been cumbersome and time-consuming. If the librarians could just pull the books we've used in past year based on our check-out history, that'd be great.

Typically MS classrooms have carts in their rooms for independent reading (variety of genres), and these switch out routinely. This could continue, though it would be great to have a general space in the MS for YA and MS books to be placed. Perhaps we could have part of the MOD Commons designated as book space? I think that since it will be so public, there is a greater chance at books being accessed and read--yay! But, I do realize that keeping track of these books would challenging.
