Just like Amy, I have always had a drive to help people around me. There is something about giving that on itself, it gives back, and the thought of making a difference in my environment excites me. Amy, in addition, is a brave and adventurous soul. Moving to South Africa as a young, white female all by herself tells a lot about her drive; I like to think that I, myself, have a similar passion for adventure. In conclusion, Amy and I are very passionate, adventurous, and caring individuals.

Although I have not reached that point in my life yet, I will travel to any means necessary to make this world a more fair place to be in. Amy and I are similarly ambitious.

When Amy was faced with the opportunity to go to South Africa, she boldly took it. And on during her time there she got involved with the locals and the liberal movement. Personally, I would have done the same thing Amy did. I like to think of myself as a curious and adventure-driven individual, and if I had a passion like Amy's towards South Africa's social and cultural problems, I would have found a way to move there and EXPERIENCE IT for myself.

At Amy's high school in Albuquerque, New Mexico it was required that every student took two college classes upon graduation. Of course this is not required at Westwood but it shows how vigorous her education was prior to her trip. If this program existed in my high school I would already be ahead in college. The two extra credits would allow me to shape my four years in college to something specific for me.

Another difference we have influenced Amy's Education. She has a high school in her name and now students all around the world that attend her school are honoring her accomplishments.

One similarity between me and Amy is that we are both compassionate people who aspire to inspire. It already has affected my social life and people feel cared for when they're around me.

The act of moving to a new country - with a new culture, that was still in conflict with itself - is a bold statement on its own, but Amy went a step further by joining the liberal movement through her leadership and involvement.

This reminds me of when I first moved to the United States. 5 years ago, just like Amy, I moved to a new country, with a new language, and a new culture. Although I did not get to experience a war in the country, it for sure felt like one inside my head. I remember how bad I wanted to go back to live to Mexico because I missed my family and my friends so much. However, I also realized how big of an opportunity it was to have moved to the United States of frickin' America. That is why I decided that I would do anything in my power to adapt to this new lifestyle that was presented to me.

It took me a while to adapt, and the process was a long and sometimes sorrow one. However, once I adapted, I was unstoppable. It was in the US that I made some of the most meaningful friendships and relationships of my life. It was in the US here that I got to go on a journey into my soul; a journey that unveiled a hurtful past, but also a journey that showed me the burning light that shines within me.

Just like Amy, I was able to overachieve in a place where the odds seemed against us. We both had our clear objective in mind and were able to find a path there.

One thing that really stood up to me as we watched Amy's documentary was her academic discipline. She always had perfect grades and went to the college of her dreams (my dreams too lol.
In a way I am like Amy in the sense that I have always been on top of my studies and generally been a good student. However, senior year my grades really started to drop. I let myself loose and became more irresponsible. This is something I really feel bad about now that I look back at it. All those times that I ditched my homework to watch Netflix ,or didn't study for a test because I was hanging out with my friends, really disappoint me.

I know it is very late in the year to do anything about my grades. However, I definitely know that I can take this experience and learn from it; which is exactly what I did from Amy: I learned from her. She taught me that the only thing I need to excell is passion and a little bit of discipline.
