Format: Op-Ed
Work: The Truman Show
Character: Christoff

Entry point: A year after Truman left Seahaven

Title:
Opinion: Truman should return to Seahaven

By Christoff

Truman’s celebrity status will not translate well into the real world. As we all know, Truman is perhaps one of the most well-known individuals in the entire world. To be famous is to give up privacy. Anywhere Truman goes he will be recognized, and as a result, Truman will be constantly disturbed by fans and inquirers of the Truman Show. What Trumans needs right now is no disturbance from the public, but peace and quiet, which Seahaven is able to offer.

Furthermore, Truman's career skills and education are not qualified enough for him to get a sustainable job. Firstly, the education Truman received was mediocre at best. Although he may seem to be a capable salesperson in Seahaven, that is not the case as the show was tailored to suit Truman. After the popularity of Truman gradually fades, Truman will have a hard time finding jobs.

Truman will find it difficult to form connections with the people in the outside world. He has no friends and no family. Therefore, Truman is not prepared for the real world. The best alternative is for him to return to Seahaven.

Part 2: Cathedral(summative)

Format: Visual Art
Work: Cathedral
Character: Narrator(Bub)

Title: Cathedral

Entry Point: After drawing the Cathedral

Quote: “My eyes were still closed. I was in my house. I knew that. But I didn’t feel like I was inside anything. “It’s really something,” I said.”

The cathedral acted as a medium for both Robert and the Narrator to see things in a new light. It allowed the Narrator to develop empathy and understanding. Initially, the “truth” or belief that the Narrator held was that he was better than Robert. For Robert, knowing the “truth” was positive and allowed him to expand his worldview. The Narrator was originally closed-minded and insecure. He had a feeling of superiority and jealousy over Robert, as Robert was blind but spent a lot of time with his wife. As a result, Bub harbored many prejudices against Robert. However, after the experience of illustrating the cathedral for Robert, the Narrator was able to develop empathy, and he no longer carries a limited view on blindness. In a more figurative sense, the use of a Cathedral symbolizes the newfound connection between the Narrator and Robert. This was because a Cathedral was a place where people came to worship God. It acts as a common ground where the Narrator and Robert can relate to each other.

I drew what came to my mind as Robert guided my hands through the rough paper. I first removed the main composition of the cathedral, which was a rectangle. I then added the tall roofs on the boxes and then put on the spires on the sides. Afterward, I illustrated the arched windows, buttresses, and great doors before finally adding people inside the cathedrals.
