When Maverick found out that he was her boyfriend and not her driver, he got mad not because the fact that she had a boyfriend, but because he was white. People say that when your father sets a good example for you then you look for someone like him, so since Chris is white and not black as Maverick he thought he didn't set a good example for Star, he was sad and disappointed at the same time.
