The small beaked finches are starting to die off and when that happens the genes of that start to disappear because the small beaked finches aren't able to reproduce because their are no other finches with small beaks and the large beaked finches population starts to increase. In fact the large beaked finches beaks are getting longer in 1776 their beak length was 10.7 cm long and in 1778 their beaks were 11.6 cm. That means their beaks are evolving so they can get the food even easier now.

The finches with long beaks have a higher chance of living due to the birds with the small beaks can't get to the food that the birds with the long beaks have. Example, the Tribulus plant has more seeds in it because the Finches with the small beaks cant access the seeds so it saved more seeds in it for the birds with the long beaks so they could survive longer. Rather then then the plants for the finches with small beaks the portulaca plants was easier for them but didn't have enough seeds.

Due to the drought that happended in 1777 had only 20mm of rainfall and wiped the whole entire population of the Portucula plant the next best thing for the small beaked finch was the tribulus plant(the plant with the bigger and harder seeds) but the smalled beaked finches weren't able to get to them because their beaks werent as strong and big as the large beaked finches. The data from lab 18 showed that from 1776 to 1778 the beak size increased.
