The obstacles they faced were settling and transitioning, because the main land was different than territories. So my family had to get used to the differences and live with them. They went through a lot due to the lack of money they had. My family came to the United States from Puerto Rico, for better opportunities. Back then, I guess they struggled in Puerto Rico. Probably due to hurricanes or something destroying their home every few years. The same thing that happens today, but to a less degree. Specifically U.S. systematic discrimination. That's mostly it though, and yes it did effect my family because they aren't "white". They're colored so discrimination was a big thing back then.
