The amount of money spent on the book between Germany and Australia in 1995 ranged from $30 million to $80 million. Germany substantially boosted its book expenditure in 1999, whereas Italy lowered its book spending. In 2003, Germany's GDP decreased from 90 million to almost 80 million dollars, whereas Austria, Italy, and France grew from 50 million to 60 million dollars. The amount of money spent on books grew from $30 million to more than $60 million between 2001 and 2005.
Germany spent the greatest money on books in 2005 of any of these three countries. It did, however, fall precipitously in 2003. Furthermore, despite an increase of $5 million in 2005, Italy had the lowest level of book expenditure at the end of that year.
