Give the AI pdfs that shine light on counter-narratives in history

AIs bias dominant narratives because it is pulling from lots of historical sources and sadly most historical sources are on the dominant narratives of history. But if teachers can provide students with good resources that reflect a counter-narrative the AI will be able to analyze it and compare it to the dominant narrative. AI can be a great tool here since it allows teachers to give students higher level texts that the AI can then break down for them so it is easier to understand.

Let's say this activity right here was being used in one of my classes and the connection of the school internet went out during a thunderstorm. I would be prepared know what questions were on the padlet, have post-it notes at the ready and just recreate the padlet on the board in the front of class. While it will take students longer to write out responses and physically put the post-its up on the board, it might be better for them since the non-digital activity gets them moving around.

Like all cases of technology, it can be used for good and bad. I don't think teachers should just tell an AI to give them a lesson plan and follow it without approaching it with a critical lens. But if a teacher is slammed with grading, emailing parents, extracurriculars, etc... using an AI to speed up the lesson planning process could be a great idea. The teacher would then have to trace back through the lesson and find ways to improve it and adapt it to their teaching style and their classroom norms. If the teacher is able to still treat the lesson with integrity and holds it to the same standard as their other lessons, I see no issue in using AI to help with the tedious aspects of lesson planning.

Access to technology and high-speed internet varies a lot from district to district. Some districts give all their students laptops or tablets that give the students access to technology as long as they have internet. But the device is not everything, if a student does not have internet access at home, the device is more or less useless for online activities. Teachers need to be aware of these disparities and it might be a good idea to limit technology use to in-class only due to this case. After all, the point of technology is to make learning easier, if using technology creates a potential barrier to learning then it is not the best approach.
