The Algonquin (Algonkin) tribe was found through different parts of Canada. A majority of these people lived throughout southern Quebec at 46°16'42.5"N 77°43'25.0"W. The relative location of this is in the eastern part of the Algonquin Provincial Park, which is east of the Ottawa River. This area was important, because this was one of the main areas that the Algonquin Indians lived. The Algonquin tribe was found in many different locations, so it is hard to pinpoint the exact location of them.

This region of Canada would most likely be considered as a humid continental climate zone. In this region, there is many forests, rivers, lakes, wildlife, and hills. With all of these resources, living in this area most likely made it easier for this tribe. They had easy access to the food that they needed, shelter from the trees, good soil to grow crops, and a fresh water source. However, with all of the trees, this tribe probably had to change and adjust to this region. They might have needed to clear out some of the trees so they could get sunlight to grow there plants. Then, during the French and Indian War, this tribe along with some others, was relocated to a reserve found along Golden Lake in Ontario. That's why many of these native Americans were so spread out, because some stayed in this area, others went back to Quebec, and some went back to Ontario.

Ancient Algonquin's had spiritual practices and beliefs. They worshiped the land they lived. Also, they created wast to communicate with different spirits. The children of the Algonquin tribes were taught about their religious beliefs when they were about seven years old. They used dream catchers to keep the bad spirits away. They put them in their houses where ever they were sleeping, so that the spirits didn't get to them while they were sleeping.

The Algonquins used many different types of transportation. When they had to travel on water for trade or to get around, they used canoes. When they had a snowfall or ice on the ground, they would often use snow dogs that were pulling supplies and people. For just regular days when they had to travel or hunt, they used horses. Nowadays, this tribe can be located in many different parts of Canada. Throughout the French and Indiana War, this tribe was relocated to an area at Golden Lake, Ontario. After this war, many of them stayed in this area, but then some also went back to where they were before. The Iroquois Indians, from areas around New York, were some of their biggest enemies throughout the years. In the 1500's, they began to push the Iroquois' more southward. About this time, the Algonquins ruled land as far north as the Hudson River and they could start growing a more variety of crops. The Algonquins and Iroquois were always going back and forth with each other. Especially when the Algonquins became allies with the French and were introduced to guns. They were able to control much of the land through this area. However, this didn't last long, because the Iroquois attacked, which ended in the Algonquins losing all of their land and resources. Over the hundreds of years the Algonquins spent ruling over this land, they became allies with both the French and British. These relations didn't last long, but they did help the Algonquins gain more land. The Algonquins history with these different tribes and races has helped them, but has also caused many hardships. This is what makes the rich history of this tribe so interesting.

They were dome shaped and not very large, only one single family unit could fit in one. Algonquin women wore long dresses that had removable sleeves and men wore breech cloths and leggings. Both men and women wore moccasins, on their feet, and if there was bad weather they wore cloaks. The Algonquins ate, fish, meat, berries, fruits, corn, wild plants, maple syrup from the tree sap, etc.
