         <description><![CDATA[<div>- Curriculum Reform Movement (1960).&nbsp; Developed by people who had little to no classroom experience. They failed to take into account realities of classroom life.&nbsp;<br>- U.S. students were taught less science and math, and fewer foreign languages than their European counterparts.<br>- 1960-1970's people started to question what the schools were teaching and how they were teaching it.<br>-Protests began and many militant youth groups singled out the schools curricula.<br>-Schools began to greatly expand their curricular offerings and instituted a wide variety of instructional strategies.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>1950s- The federal government appropriated millions of dollars for educational reforms that reflected the importance of teaching knowledge and skills that were viewed as essential for adult life.<br>1970s- Title IX- "No person in the United States shall, on the basis of sex, be excluded from participation in, be denied the benefits of, or be subject to discrimination under any education program or activity receiving Federal finance assistance.<br>1990s- Teacher leadership. Teachers went beyond the classroom and assumed leadership roles in school restructuring education reform. They changed the nature of their profession.</div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-1950's- War between U.S. And Soviet school systems- they each tried to educate the best scientist and engineers for development of military technology.&nbsp;<br>&nbsp;-1970's saw drops in enrollment. Parents became education activists seeking or establishing alternative schools, or joining the home education movement led by John Holt.<br>- Many school systems had to cope with financial crises.<br>- The State provided less aid and voters failed to support referendums to increase school funding because they lacked confidence in the schools.<br><br></div>]]></description>

         <description><![CDATA[<div>-Rural and Urban.<br>-Teachers in urban schools focused on one aspect of education.<br>&nbsp;-Rural schools were required to know multiple topics since they taught multiple classes within the small schools.&nbsp;<br>-Students in rural communities had a general knowledge of a large amount of topics and those in urban communities knew a greater amount of information on a smaller spectrum of knowledge.<br>-Parents that kept their children in Public school demanded teacher accountability.<br>- The end of World War II was the beginning of school desegregation.</div>]]></description>
