Have students write a paragraph on their opinion after reading and discussing a newsela article.

I have students write an exit ticket then I correct their grammar and return it back the next day. Then, the activity they do the next day is to rewrite their exit ticket but with my corrections fixed. Students learn to edit and get the feel for what grammatically correct sentences are like.

I think teachers must provide a model text to students to start with, that will help students to understand what they are expected to do.

Students should be allowed to think and writing even if they want to write about their own /personal experiences.

Students should be allowed to discuss their writing with their classmates in groups.
