Basic:

It was 10 at night and mum and I just had a fight. She was screaming at me so loudly I decided to go for a walk to get away from her. I went to the oval just up the road from me and laid in the middle of it on the grass, looking up at the bright moon lighting up the dark night sky – it always made me feel relaxed and calm. My boyfriend, Jake, also makes me feel calm. I can’t wait for him to get back from Vietnam where he is fighting for our country in war…

Goals:

I lay on my back, engulfed in the depth of the grass in the middle of the field. The moon shone so perfectly in its world away from mine, beaming from one end of it’s smiling crest to the other. As the chill in the light summer’s breeze lightly tickles my skin and invigorates my senses, I find comfort in the illuminating midnight sky. I would always look to the sky in times of darkness, like now when I need to escape from the havoc at home. There was something addictive about the way the moon and the stars enlighten each other on the blackest of nights, and relate it to the way Jake lightens my life on even the dimmest of days.

Having a boyfriend in the Vietnam War is hard…

Basic: It was late at night and I heard something in the bush outside my cottage. I lived alone, but I was a very curious person so I went to check out what it was anyway. When I checked, there was nothing there but I still felt a presence behind me. I was so scared because I lived in my cottage alone in the middle of a forest. When I turned around I screamed because I was frightened by a tall man standing behind me with a knife in his hand.

Think about: What did the noise in the bush sound like? What did the night look like and feel like? How did she know someone was behind her? What did the presence feel like? How did her senses react? How did she turn around? What did she feel like when she saw the man? What did the man look like? Was he smiling or laughing or frowning? What sort of knife was it? Was did it look like?

HOMEWORK - Think about the above questions and re-write the introduction to make it more descriptive and engaging. HIGHLIGHT where you have used any of the five senses - I have put some words below that might help you with describing the five senses. I look forward to reading them :) Have a good weekend girls!
