  1. Just like forests, deserts and oceans, the night sky is a type of wilderness that inspires and excites, but it’s under threat.
  2. We don’t want to switch off all the lights and make it unsafe for people to walk and drive around cities, rather I’d like to see shielded lights that shine downwards, like they do in many places around the world. There are designs available to us, it isn’t rocket science. If people get behind campaigns to actually create good lighting in public spaces, we’d all be better off.

In the 1860s the French surgeon and anthropologist, Dr Paul Broca, made the remarkable finding that patients who had lost their powers of speech as a result of a stroke (a blood clot in the brain) had paralysis of the right half of their body.

According to Brinkman, as the brain evolved, one side became specialised for fine control of movement (necessary for producing speech) and along with this evolution came right- hand preference.
