Cthulhu mythology was started and written by HP Lovecraft, a famous American horror fiction story writer who is also known as one of the most influential horror fiction writers of the 20th century, the first writing he published about Cthulhu was "The call of Cthulhu", a short story serialized in the horror fiction magazine "Weird tales" starting in 1928. His designs of the monsters inspired many artists and writers to do their creations. This compilation of the Cthulhu themed artworks shares three common traits:

  • Supernatural- surrealistic power or beings are included 
  • creativity- Those are original characters and ideas created by many people, starting with HP Lovecraft and the after-writers.
  • Stories- These artworks can represent a story or have the potential to inspire others to create a story.

A type of board game derived from Cthulhu mythos, the settings are based on the content of Cthulhu mythology originated by H.P Lovecraft. To play CoC (Call of Cthulhu) TRPG, you need at least two people (there are no upper limits for the players, it is all decided by the keeper you playing with) to play the game, and one of the players has to be the story narrator called "Keeper" go through the story plot and role-play the supportive characters in the game that are not controlled by the players, such as NPC or the enemies. it is a role to support other players know what should they do in the games, and also moderate the rule to make sure the game will keep continuing till the end. For other players,  you have to do a character creation for your avatar in this game, then roleplay your characters to investigate the supernatural mystery and try to survive till the end of this game. The seventh edition of COC Trpg was released in 2016, it is the newest version of this Trpg category, after years of revising and refixing the rules from the first edition that was released in 1881.


Supernatural: The supernatural events that happened in this game normally will be related to the gods or other unreal creatures shown up in the Cthulhu mythos, and bring the story plot to a turning point or climax.

Creativity: How the story goes depends on what players do in the game, such as how they act and work with the NPC, it may be a great inspiration for the content creators because the story plot is mostly unexpected

Stories: This game is about the adventure of the characters you have designed, and allows the players to create their own story.

This half human half fish mythical species first appear in the novel written by HP Lovecraft "The Shadow over Innsmouth" written in 1931, and describe as a "grayish green fish frog", having gills on both sides of its neck, using its four limbs to crawl or walking like a human on the ground. The deep ones are under the command of Dagon, the oldest deep ones of them all, also very religious to Cthulhu, the great old ones that sleep at the bottom of the sea. They are planning to conquer humanity by creating offspring by hybridizing with mankind, which will be not much different than the normal baby at first, but will become more alien-like step by step when they grow older; and then return to the sea to live with their own kind; using this way to "overflow the human population" then defeat the humanity. However, their plan gets destroyed by the US navy torpedo of its under- sea city, Y'ha-nthlei.

Supernatural: It is a fictional race designed by HP Lovecraft, a fish-man species with magic powers that are against humans.

Creativity: HP Lovecraft created "the Deep ones" and related them with the Cthulhu worldview, which gives him the idea to write out his story "The Shadow over Innsmouth". Also, many years later, his creation inspired other others to do their creations through his designs.

Stories: This surreal creature had been used and shown up in many novels and video games, and using they as the antagonist of the story.

creativity: Her existence is an outcome of many people's cooperation, HP Lovecraft just mention her name in his writings, and her outlooking is designed by other writers.

Stories: Her existence may help many storytellers or artists create a character. Lovecraft. Lovecraft took inspiration from  "The King in Yellow", a series of short stories by Robert W. Hastur is known as a great old one and full of mystery, no one actually knows his identity or how he looks.

Supernatural: Belongs to the "Great old ones", and had multiple tentacles on his body, which is a common trait with Cthulhu, Also his body has always been covered under a yellow cape.

Creativity: Although Hustar's appearance in "The King in Yellow" by Robert W. Chambers, but then HP Lovecraft decided to add this character to his story, then the others accept this character as a member of the "Great old ones" and create the settings, such as appearance and sign for the Hastur.

According to the myth, when the stars stopped at the right place, the fallen city will rise again and Cthulhu will conquer the world again. Because the description of the great beings by H.P. Lovecraft is usually using many adjectives that are hard to tell what it’s talking about, I use AI drawing to create the feeling of “unnamable creatures” through the pictures.

Supernatural: Most well-known supernatural creature in Cthulhu mythos, one of the members of the Great old ones, they are the huge creature that has a residence on Earth for a long time, and once rule this planet. However, most of the Great ones have fallen into a deep sleep or defeated by other supernatural beings for now. Usually, the artists will draw him as a human body shape, but the skin is covered with fish scales, and having an octopus-like head, also having wings on his back.

Creativity: Cthulhu is the first supernatural character in Cthulhu mythos that has been designed by HP Lovecraft, and may be concerned as the keystone of the whole Cthulhu worldview. If there is no Cthulhu, all the Cthulhu mythos will never exist.

Creativity: This story is an extension of the Cthulhu world, showing the importent parts of Cthulhu mythos that have not been told in the other stories.

Stories: It tells a journey of the protagonists searching for Mystical creatures, and the cover was a scene in the novel when William discovered the lost city that the Elder ones had built.

Our protagonist, Charles Reed, wishes to find out the cause of this disaster and step on this journey to start his investigation in this city. It is very obvious to see the game developer get their inspiration from "The Shadow over Innsmouth", and the gameplay is very close to the CoC Trpg, both are roleplaying a character trying to solve the puzzle through the investigation and interact with the NPC in the story.

Supernatural: It tells a story of a city under the effect that brings by the deep ones, and the citizens are either falling into madness or living in fear all day; Also our protagonist will see or use many supernatural items to solve his problem
in the game.

Creativity: It is a video game with an original story that happened in the Cthulhu worldview, and takes inspiration from "The shadow of the Innsmouth" by HP Lovecraft to finish the settings of this video game.

Stories: As I have mentioned above, it is about an investigator, Charles Reed, who wishes to find out the cause of the disaster that happened in the city called Oakmont, and steps on this journey to expose the mystery.

Supernatural: In the story Cater gets to meet the outer gods who are the guardian of the gate to multi-dimension, Yog.Sothoth.

Creativity: The writers of this story create the famous ancient artifact "Silver key" in the world of Cthulhu and show it for the first time, which often appears after creation in the CoC RPG and other creations relating to Cthulhu.

Stories: It tells the story of a man named Randolph Carter and how he gets to meet Yog. Sothoth and safely come back to reality after getting to the other dimension.

This game is about a village called "Yharnam" having a plague that will turn people into monsters, and the players will roleplay as monster hunters in this game to solve the problem and expose the mystery behind this pandemic. There are many Cthulhu elements inside this game, including the monster's appearance and the settings of the "Bloodborne" worldview. There are many "The great old ones" that appeared in this game that are very close to HP Lovecraft's original descriptions, show up as the stage or area bosses in this game and drive the story plot to keep continuing until the players know what happened to the Yharnam village.

Supernatural: This game used a lot of Cthulhu elements in this game, also mentioned an unreal disease that can turn people into a beast and attack others.

Creativity: Through the inspiration of Cthulhu mythos, the creators of this game have made an original settings worldview story but include many thoughts that had been shown in HP Lovecraft's work multiple times. Such as cosmic horror, which means humanity is just a small part of space and insignificant to the universe. Also, compared to other creatures, humans are very powerless by comparison.

The reason why I added this series to my collection is that my hobby is watching animations during my free time, and this series is a few Japanese anime that includes Cthulhu elements in it, so I decided to add it in; it's glad to see what I am interested in did shows up in the Japan animation.

Supernatural: One of the upper beings compare to human shows up in front of a normal student and says it had fallen in love with him.

Creativity: Other than using Cthulhu elements to create a story, it also designed the "Nyarlathotep" outfit as a beautiful girl called "Nyaruko" and made one of the protagonists in this story, which is an idea that no one else has before.
